I'm going to have to agree with a lot of you and say "Master of Puppets".....everything before the black album was good though. But the real question is, what happened to Metallica? They used to be really good and the 90's rolled around and they just got really bad and they're just getting worse. The black album isn't terrible.....but I think that's the point they should have reallized it was time to call it quits. Same goes for Weezer, the Blue Album and Pinkerton were great....now we get songs like "Beverly Hills". I can never figure out how bands can be so good and then get so bad like that.

Seriously, what happened to them?!
i used to love Metallica, then i listened to st. anger and i wanted to gouge out my ears with one of my Star Trek pencils
. granted, i always loved Megadeth and Iron Maiden more, but Metallica was a VERY close third. i wish they would get it together. come on guys!

This has always been a very tuff question for me Choosing one album to be my favorite, but i would either go with Master of Puppets or Justice for all. Both of those albums i can still listen to all the way through

I dont think so
You never know and i wont give up on them but i think there past that now and are constantly try to reinvent them self and stick with todays mainstreem music.I think you will get a st. anger style album again just improved with better drums, solo's again and hopefully a better voice. And if not that will be similer to what load was.Yeah they could prove me wrong and i hope they do .I would even be happy if they just made a album that sound's good even if its not hard thrash like th past.We will see as its supposed to be out at the beginning of the year

No. Even if they play thrash, it still need to sound thrash to be thrash imo. And that will probably never happen with that band.

I'm a master of puppets addict myself. I hope next months album isnt as bad as st anger was (it is next month right????)

there never gonna be able to pull off a thrash sound. Exodus and Kreator can barely sound thrash in there newer release, let alone metallica who lost there thrash edge after Kill em All. I could honestly say that if your a young band like Gama Bomb or Violator, thrash would be more aggressive but if your old your not gonna be able to put that thrash element into your music as much as younger generation of thrash metalers. Plus most of them are beer drinkers. Beer and thrash has always been a great combination.

Ride the Lightning and Master Of The Puppets are still thrash in vein, there just not as thrashy as other counterparts in the scene. Like I said, they started loosing the thrash edge after kill em all, I didnt specifically said that there not thrash anymore.

what i do is pretend that after they put out the black album they decided that they just weren't cutting it anymore and decided to call it quits and broke up for good. it makes it easier to listen to good albums and not think about how terrible they are now.

I wanted to say Justice as well cause i fell its there most intense riff's,but the lack of bass on the album is the only thing that holds me back from saying its not my favorite. If only they wouldnt have tryed to cut Newsted's bass out it would be a 100% Pefect album.

My preferred is the black album (though And Justice for all would be almost a tie if I had to give notes)
P.S. Seems I am the only one to prefer this phase(black+justice) instead of the more thrash metal 3 first albums? Well, before being flamed I do like them, but the question is about the preferred

Don't worry about being flamed here, man. It
HARDLY ever happens, and is always quickly put to an end. Speak your oppinion without fear

Master of Puppets. Black album in a close second. Luckily it seems, I haven't heard anything after Black album.

It realy depends what kind of mood im in I realy like them all but i think i tend to listen to justice or puppets a bit more than the others, well actualy i listen to there live stuff more
Posted by: coffeeman Jan 22 2008, 08:25 PM
Definitely the black album, when I was start playing the guitar in 1992 a friend of mine gave me the tabs of that album , so the first riffs I learned to play were from that album , I have a very speciall conection with it.

Master of puppets
I like all their albums till the black album (like enter sandman). Wonder what their new album ll be like.
Posted by: drw84215 Jan 22 2008, 08:47 PM
they say that the new album will be like the days of old Metallica. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are my favorites. both tied for number one. and ...And Justice for All is a shy second.
RIP Cliff Burton!!!!

Kill em all is the absolute best.... The TONE on that album is absolutley CRUSHING!! Plus the music is great!
So far it goes: 1. Kill em all 2. Justice for all 3. Black album
I don't like master of puppets! The only good song on it is the title track, all the rest is not good to me...

Idk...I've never liked the Black Album that much. Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome songs on there like The Unforgiven, Of Wolf and Man, and Nothing Else Matters, but I absolutely HATE a couple of the songs like Holier than Thou and The Struggle Within. I guess if I could overlook the fact that they made 4 great thrash/heavy metal albums before the Black Album, I'd be able to like it more. But I just can't

Oh, well. I guess, it just gives them more time to polish it and make it thrashy
