Hi,
With sweeping which pattern for the right hand is correct?
This pattern for example:
e|---10p-6----6-10p-6-|
B|---------8---------8---|
do you do up-pulloff-down-down-up-pulloff-down-down
or do you do
up-pulloff-up-down-up-pulloff-up-down
?
I've been using the second one, I saw the yngwie style 3 lesson though and it's different to how i've been doing it, does this matter? Should I start again with the second pattern?
Also, if the other pattern is correct, does it apply to larger sweeps, such that when doing 3,4 or 5 string sweeping do you always play the top of the sweep as a down stroke (when going from the high strings to the low strings and back again)?
I use to follow the first pattern... it works better for me to play down in the last string. For example if I do a 5 strings sweep I use to play 1st-4 strings up and in the last one a downstroke. It helps me to view where should I stop
BTW just try what works better for you, and remember if sounds good and you feel good it's just good
Too be honest I think you should break the your current habit and adopt the first method, it is much more fluid, and allows more control, and sounds much better. I used to do 2-string arpeggios with the second method and they always sounded pretty bad, staccatoish, and were too hard, when I adopted the first method, I went from crappy 2-string arpeggios at 100 BPM to clean, fluid, controlled 2-strings at 196 BPM (Tornado of Souls solo), so yep, thats it.
And with 3, 4, 5 string arpeggios, I always hit the top note with a downstroke, once again, it allows more control (for me).
Awesome, I'll change that then, thanks!
