GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Tabbing Through Programs

Posted by: Ayen Jan 13 2009, 08:29 PM

I've been listening to a few songs lately, and as there are no tabs for them I'm forced to learn them by ear. While this isn't bad, I hear "more" than just the notes (if you understand that), I'd like to be able to tab it out at least somewhat easier. Does anyone know of a program where you could slow down a video, say of a guitarist playing, and make it much easier to see which notes they're hitting exactly?

I've tried Camtasia Studio as I know it lets you slow down the video, unfortunately you lose all sound sad.gif

I've also heard of a program called Cubase but I have yet to use it.

I actually programmed such a program rolleyes.gif

But it only runs on GNU/Linux right now.

On windows somebody told me you can use windows media player to do that, so maybe that's an option.

You can slow down video in Sony Vegas video editing software, and Cubase/Nuendo as well. I guess you can slow it down in other apps as well, I'm sure about these two.

Here you have a plugin for the Winamp that allows you to play the songs in a slow tempo without changing the pitch.

Also like Ivan said the Cubase/Nuendo/Vegas allows you to do the same thing but you have to know a few things to make that happend.

You can slow down both video and audio in Windows Media Player ! It has play speed that goes down or up.

If you want very specific slow down, I would go for software called Transcriber or Sound forge.

Hope that helps smile.gif

There is a lot of software for that purpose, the thing is that it doesn't work always, it produces lots of noise.

For audio I'd say Transcribe is the best.
There could be problems with video tho cause of the frames,
if you slow it too much some movements might be swallowed.

That's what I am talking about, they are good, but don't rely to much on them.
