So, before i started playing the guitar, all i did was to sit in front of the computer/xbox. So i guess that all my life I've been called a nerd and the only thing i was good at was just at games.
But then i started to play the guitar. First on and off, but later much more serious and i just love the feeling of making progress.
But now, i never want to play guitar. Until i really pick it up, then i can't stop playing it.
And today i just realized that this was the case when i played football to, I never wanted to go to football practice, but once i was there i kinda liked it.
Later i realized that i didn't like football and the only reason i were playing it was because my parents wanted me to do some sport.
And well, now that I feel this feeling again, I start to believe that the reason I play guitar now is that other peoples no longer see me as a nerd, but more of a guitar player.
I love to play the guitar, but i never feel like doing it until i really hold the guitar in my hands.
So I want to know, what is really the right reason to play guitar? Is it a very bad reason to play it just because it makes me someone else?
Btw i put quite alot of time on playing guitar if it makes any different.
Right reason = because you enjoy it.
It does make difference if you put a lot of time into practicing - but only if it's not a stressful activity. You said you like to play when you pick up the guitar, well, that's a very good reason. It would be much worse if you didn't have any motivation, not even when you start to play.
I don't think you should compare your former experience about football with playing the guitar now. That was then and this is now. If you feel progress and you get the hang of it after starting your practice sessions every time then you basically got everything to motivate you. Listen to a lot of music and play a lot. Sometimes it's not a good idea to revise your attitude towards the guitar every minute because these occasional thoughts vary a lot and they don't have to have anything to do with the whole experience you have with this instrument. Doing music is hard work and it will be frustrating many times. But that's a major point of it: hard work. Instead of remaining an xbox nerd you did start to practice and that's awesome. Develop confident playing and the chicks will dig it. Start writing your own material and you'll explore much more about music (compared to just copying and learning stuff).
Don't give up man, I'm also at a hard stage now, I don't even want to see my axe in the stand by my bed, but then I get some inspiration listening to some good stuff, I try to recall some great moments with the guitar so far and that's enough for me.
Just don't stop. Music is never a waste of time so there are literally no drawbacks to suffer from. Keep exploring the world of guitar and you'll see what's it all about.
Rock on!
Well I think you have to ask yourself - Do you want to guitar become part of your life? And will you work as a musician? Or it is just a hobby for you? You have to be very concrete with this, because you can`t be a rockstar and football star or whatever at the same time, too much time needed to master any of those "skills".
But anyways playing guitar is better than playing PC all day
And don`t think about yourself negative.. What makes you "someone else" as you said is the state of mind and way of living, not someones opinion. Well if you don`t enjoy playing guitar I don`t know if it`s needed for you, but if you do why not to do it
same.. if I can't play... like, when a string broke and have to wait for new. Or something like that, I find myself 100 times a day going! I'm gunna pick up the guitar... (walks to guitar) " aaaaw what the! Can't play..." What to do now?!
that exactly how i feel every month or so, try taking ab reak for 1-2 weeks. Thats what i do, and when i go back i want to play, and i usally play better and create better music
Sounds to me like you're using guitar to create a fake persona about yourself. Liking video games is fine, I love Halo, but you have to play sports. Personally, I hate the feeling you get when you haven't done anything all day.
Playing guitar is a very good hobby/profession! And yes it is a cool skill to learn and it will make you a "better" and more "interesting" person.Same with everything in life , skills you have count too and will define who you really are. Not to mention that playing can lead you to some very interesting things in life.
The best right reason to play guitar is your love for music and instrument !
If you dont like to listen to music, don't have the drive to learn to play your favorite riffs and solos, sooner or later your playing will diminish. Thats my opinion anyways
Ivan hit the spot socialize, even though it might be frightening at first, and it has ups and down, in the end giving a lot of yourself helps. stick with people who respect you, and dont give a **** about those who dont.
and the ladies find guitar cool at campfire and such so go pratice some singing along with your guitar
-Frederik
If ya wanna socialize, if you live close to your school, walk home. Many people walk home where i live and i just got like 15 new good friends in 3 weeks
In addition to my post.
when i say respect i mean the respect you get from the actions that are true to yourself and not respect that comes from making trouble and actions that are done because other might find it cool
-Frederik
My reason right or wrong at first was to be cool...then it soon changed to because it took me to a new place, someplace I just enjoys being in...kinda like that spot people have to forget the worlds hardships ..to just get away everything i tend to learn tends to allow me to drift further away Its kinda a hard thing to explain but hope that makes some sense.
Right reason to play the guitar? mmmh chicks?
There is only one reason why I play guitar.
Because I enjoy it, and makes me happy
