GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Help?

Hey, i am kinda new to GMC but i am playing the guitar for almost 2 years now.

the problem is my guitar teacher moved to a whole different country when i was playing for like 2 months.

the thing is, i am still beginner because i didn't improve without a teacher, although i can do some things that are intermediate other things i can't do are beginner (for example i don't know any scales, but i can play Californication, Holiday, Sweet child of mine (intro and 1st solo only tho) and some others

so to make this story short XD
Does anyone know like lessons that can help me improve? searching is really hard because i hardly find the things i need

these are quite different. one is focused on soloing and the another one on rhythm using powerchords.

IMO u should just go to the advanced search, select a difficulty level that is possible, but a bit of a challenge, and just learn any lessons from that list that you think sound cool.

Yeah, I guess you should go for anything that
sounds cool and doable for you
and mostly likely you'd pick something that
fits your level already.
Or you can simply go by level,1-4 approx, can't tell for sure,
rating is very individual.

You say you don't know any scales, I suggest you learn the pentatonic scale boxes in all positions. That will definitely improve your improvisation capabilities all over the neck, learn it, you won't regret

Here's a nice 1 on 1 lesson to start:

From there, check Andrew's theory board to learn the rest of the positions, like this one:

Once you know the cages you can just shift them to play in any scale. You can even change between minor & major scales shifting the boxes. What's more, once you know those 5 boxes you can learn minor/major scale just adding a couple notes in those cages.

I still have a lot to learn, but this was the biggest eye-opener for me so far. Hope that helps.

I would advice you to start with some lessons that you think are a bit easier than those you think you can already play.
It's important to develop gradually, and if you choose some lessons that are maybe too hard for you, you may have some problems later.

Good thing to start with as you haven't learned scales yet is my pentatonic workshop series:

This lesson is very useful as it will enable you to learn your very first scale that guitar players often learn when starting. It is sort of an universal scale that can be applied in numerous situations and music styles so it's kind of a first choice for most people. Let me know if you need any tips or advices with it. Cheers.

Of course, solely technical exercises like this one is not recommended. Since you're just starting up, it may be good to play some songs, learn some chords as well to keep things a bit more interesting.
