Hello GMCers!

Alright, I titled this topic "Customize My Strat" because, well, that's what I'm wanting to do

But here's the catch, I'm looking for YOUR opinion as to what I should do to it

There is absolutely nothing custom on it right now, all factory stock parts (minus the stickers ^.^)

So go wild and tell me what you think would not only look good, but play great

In a world of infinite possibility, I'd give it a paint job, add a floyd and a bridge humbucker

nice what you did matte just one humpickup you need

you can add a floyd rose to a strat?

Thanks for the quick feedback guys! I'm not sure about the SSH setup though, I do kind of like the traditional SSS setup. what style of music normally finds a SSH setup? I'm big on shred and neoclassical metal, especially Rhapsody of Fire (for the neoclassical ^.^)

I also did not know you could add a Floyd to a strat, but this greatly interests me O.O

Maybe scallop some of the higher frets? I think its a staple for a neoclassical player

I did say in a world of infinite possibility - you'd have to modify the guitars neck nut area to install a floyd as well as possible routing on the body.

Maybe just better to buy some Schaller locking tuners if you want to divebomb the thing

Well it depends how much money you have for customization....

The downside is that this is Squier.... I don't think it is worth putting new pickups in it....maybe a cheap paintjob, straplocks and a good strap would be nice or something....

I don't have anything to do with the site or get anything for mentioning...I just browse and drool. This one popped up the other day.

I've been thinking on this the last couple of days. This post bugged me for some reason. Then I realized why...I'm doing something similar...

In Nov '07, I was looking for something inexpensive but still "good" to use and eventually customize. It's a lot less scary to tinker around with a $200 guitar than a $800 guitar...or a $500 guitar.

So I picked up this '84 Ibanez Roadstar. It's a bit banged up (mmm...character). It has one of those old Ibanez "Pro Rok'r" bridges that gets all wonky when I use it (somehow it goes sharp after a divebomb). It's a quality guitar that just has some issues and was cheap.

I always intended to get the bridge area re-cut to fit a Floyd Rose bridge at some point. In between the woodcutting and installing the bridge, I want to strip the body, fix the dings and refinish it as close to the original color as possible since the it matches the neck and headstock color.

I have to change the 5-way switch, and I was thinking of swapping out the original single coils with something more interesting.

It's going to cost a lot more than I paid for the guitar to do this, of course and it'll never be worth as much as I've spent on it. If I evern finish though, it'll be a solid guitar that has a comfortable neck, has a usable floating bridge and hopefully an interesting tone.

I don't really see anything wrong with getting something cheap and tinkering with it to make it your own. If you like how it feels and sounds, anyway. A Squier isn't really an ideal platform for this kind of thing, but it could be interesting.
