Dude thats trippy I'd be pretty sacred too I looked around and the primary thing it said it could be is Amaurosis fugax also known as Fleeting Blindness. I am in no way a doctor but this may possibly be what you got. Here's some more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaurosis_fugax

without question see a doctor. in canada that is free, right? even if not.

I have been athletic all my life also (swam for years for example as you did), and if I crouch down a bit, and quickly raise up, things often go blurry. but that has been all my life.

but this sounds new to me. the part about feeling sick would concern me. may be nothing, but I would see a doctor right away and tell him/her about it. and I don't run to doctors easily. let us know how it goes.

edit: generally something new like this is to be checked out. when a person changes position quickly (as i mention above) this can cause a change in bp, and that is what happens to me (I remember as a kid looking a books down low in a library, standing up quickly, and feeling blurry). But you were just standing there. and you felt sick. don't self diagnose this, especially in a country with social medicine.

This has happened many times to me, im not sure if its exactly what you are saying. But yeah, it is very similar. I think you should visit a doctor.

This seems closest to what I reckon it is.

Had you just been exercising? It seems to me like your blood sugar levels may have been low. Add the heat of the shower you may have come close to passing out. With passing out it is common to feel incredibly ill and become dizzy and see spots/colours (I've heard people say they see a variety of things).

If I were you I'd go see a doctor definitely. If it does occur again, make sure you are eating enough. Don't just eat healthy foods. People always think that if they exercise and eat healthily it is good for them. Yes to a certain extent, but with such a physically straining exercise (I swam for 8 years in a local swimming club) you need to make sure you're getting enough carbohydrates/sugar/protein, which in 'healthy' foods there isn't much of.

I used to suffer from low blood sugar mainly because I didn't eat very much, but trained really hard. It's definitely not good for you. They say you should eat before you exercise, but I never did as I didn't like swimming/training on a full stomach. Afterwards though make sure you DEFINITELY eat a good size meal. And I don't mean a garden salad, I mean proper food with meat and veg, then eat something sweet.

I have that too, Ii get light headed for a second and all I see is red and orange. It happens probably 1 time a week and only last for 6 seconds. Got any idea what that is?

Also if it does occur again stay lying/sitting down for up to 20 minutes after you stop feeling sick. This allows time for your body to readjust and for blood and oxygen to get to your brain.

That is a headrush or 'Orthostatic hypotension'. Occurs when there is a fall in blood pressure. This is pretty common when you stand up after resting. Best thing is not to stand up too quickly otherwise you could pass out. It's nothing serious though.

after getting Lasik eye surgery my already bad vision was momentarily worse, where I was legally blind before, I was worse off for about 10 minutes after the procedure. I then took a 2 hour nap and woke up 20/15 and have been that way since.

Lasers pwn.

Collapsing/fainting or as in your case almost fainting is not a good sign. On the less serious side it could have been a one time incident. On the serious side it could be your heart stopping or beating irregular which could cause sudden blodpreassure fall. My dad told me that before he got his pacemaker and that off beat ticking occured, he just dropped instantly. Could be something pushing the wrong butting around your brain or any other serious matter.

It's easy to say, wha it's nothing but IMHO you should go see a doctor as soon as possible because if it's not nothing, if it's something, you'd rather want to treat it sooner than later. If it's nothing, your only loss is you wasted a few hours.

just to clarify the blindness wasn't like passing out.. the spots were not black and blue ( ive had that after a really hard swim before too or after getting clubbed in the face with a golf club ( different story)) but this was nothing like passing out i was 100% concious and very aware that something was no good sad.gif thanks for the advice guys ill let u know how it goes..

It used to happen to me quite often whenn I was younger, especially after a shower, for a shower makes your pressure go down, and you may have head turning and temporary blindness. It's a problem of low pressure, what you should do is lie with your legs up, drink some water with sugar or eat some jam, and to avoid this problems prehaps you should eat more sweets, meat and red wine.
Eating pure licorice is a big help for it pumps up pressure.
Hope it helped wink.gif
