hey all, i'm pretty new here... but i'm not new to guitar I've been playing for some time but always rhythm..when i get into soloing..NOOB ALERT!!

my basic problem is my picking hand (right) cant get synchronised with the left which is pretty fast and decent. when i try to solo faster everything comes out kinda jumbled. Trond's picking excersise is AAAmazing but when i try to go faster at 120bpm... it all kinda breaks down...

any advice how to improve my left-right synchronisation?

cheers and thanx for this site...

The only solution is to start slow and just gradually work your way up to speed.

Hi design8r,
the advice will be always the same. Practice slowly and slowly increase the bpm.
If you are new to the solo techniques start from simple scale fragments and some simple stuff.
Check also this lesson.
I'm sure it will help!

Don't curse thy picking hand, love thy picking hand, for it blesses you with aggressive staccato solos!

Oh, and do what the other guys said, start slow work your way up, and be patient.

Hi there smile.gif

Ok so this is a very common "problem" so first of dont worry smile.gif

Members report on a regular basis that on hand is faster than the other, or they dont play in sync. In reality it dosent matter if your left hand is fast, because its of no use to a player wink.gif

What were looking for as guitarist is CONTROL, control is the name of the game here because it gives good tone.

Always keep this in mind when your practicing. Control with good tone and Speed is a bi-product of many many hours of exercises and practice !! But dont let that scare you off - you will be supprised how much progress you can make over the weeks and months wink.gif

As Robin has said, you need to start slow, and build your way up to it. Pick some alternate picking exercises from the Video libary, get yourself a metronome and keep at these daily (if you can) and you will see a solid skill set build up over the months smile.gif

I appreciate exercises can get boring, so mix them up with fun stuff like improvisation and other techniques! Ive been doing some of muris's exercises every day for 6 months and Ive seen a dramatic change in my playing.

I hope this helps a little. smile.gif

Metronome is the key. Play slow and increase the tempo, and when you find your limit take your metronome and put a FASTEST tempo. You will play it really bad but then return to your limit... probably you will increase it a bit more wink.gif

ALso watch out to do very precise movements with you left hand fingers, fretting only what needs to be fretted, and pisking the exaclty the same time when you fret and holding the sound until you pick the other note. This way you get fuller and natural sound. Don't worry about the speed, it will come gradually, it doesn't come overnight.

Don't curse your picking hand, train it wink.gif As for tips, the others had them already, start slow, increase tempo and slowly push your limits like that. Sometimes this needs patience, but it works.

If you like, my new series will be " Right Hand Basic" who cares about alternate picking. Than I'll make another series about "Hands synchronization"...if you like and maybe others need, I think in this month the lessons will be ready!
