Hey, i have a little problem, each time i start playing guitar, i can't stop anymore, even though i have to finish a 20 page memory, i always say that i'll do it later..
so now, when i wake up in the morning i'm always questioning myself, should i play a little ( cause i'm really tempted) or no, cause i know if i start i'm not going to stop, and even if i stop, i'll start hanging out on gmc, or go eat lol ...

It's really difficult to study next to a guitar, what i do is hide it in it's flycase and i force myself.

actually it's not really a problem, cause i can still control myself a little bit ; i just wanted to see if there are other people like me.

Hey man,
wow I am the one who could have written that...I can absolutely 1000 percent understand what you mean...the guitar can be a real addiction and in combination with gmc it's even worse...i also find it a huge temptation to get up and instead of studying for whatever (me university) checking out what's going on at gmc..check out new lessons...and stuff...but you really have to learn to deal with that because the better you get on guitar the more addicted you will be to it !!!(Of course we all know it is the most beautiful drug in the world rolleyes.gif ). Well , I do it like this....I try to play the guitar after I've done the most urgent stuff...during that I'm always motivated because knowing when I'm finished I can start off practising guitar....without remorse !!! During your sections of study for uni or whatever you should also set a time for about 40 minutes...in this 40 minutes you just study...and you do nothing ELSE !!!after those 40 minutes you can take a 10 minutes break...check out the forums and stuff...then come the next 40 minutes studying (WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE)...this really helped me to be consistent...maybe It could also help you....and to accomodate guitar and study...greetings

Diciplin and self control sometimes is problematic, to have a plan and stick to it. If the plan is to quit school and become a godlike guitarist one wouldn't feel guilt for not doing homework but effectivly practice guitar with a set goal.

The risk of not having a plan to stick with is that while playing guitar you think about homework and when you do your homework your mind is with the guitar and the result is that your guitar playing isn't effective and your grades drop. A lose-lose situation.

Setting off one hour for homework and when done one hour of guitar I'm positive the end result for both would be so much better. Your mind wouldn't be fighting itself saying "guitar is wrong, it's bad for me" which in the end could be connected with guilt. Instead following a schedule both for guitar and school you'll get both done and you're in a win-win situation.
Easy huh? wink.gif

I think she can sit in on both to not complicate the relation by choosing school or guitar before her ph34r.gif

Unfortunately I'm the opposite. I wish I had time to play guitar and even when I have time I don't play. I lost the will to play guitar a long time ago. sad.gif

actually i always tell myself once i finish that, i'll have nothing left to do, and i can play guitar, but there's always work and it's difficult to wait while there's all this tentation..
by the way, nighthawk i'm at university too, and my university schedule is pretty cool so that leaves me plenty of time for guitar (+girlfriend lol) but we always want more, don't we wink.gif

PS: organised confusion : I hope you'll find the will again to play guitar

My girlfriend beats me into studying, and I dont fight back coz I know shes right. Also studying in the university I find is a good idea as my guitars nowhere near me!

I would also suggest that you come up with a kind of plan that includes a certain amount of time for everything that you want (or have) to do each day, like this you can play guitar, but all the other things will still be done too. And if you have some extra time at the end of the day, hey, use it in whatever way you want wink.gif

As MickeM said, it is crucial that you make the choice how much you wanna practice your guitar, and make a plan. Then what is more important - stick with it! This is all that will solve your problems. Eventually you will use your time effectively, and feel better all together.
