I love fingerstyle playing, in a funky style ala Victor Bailey ( old bassist from weather report )

http://www.myspace.com/victorbailey have a listen to the first track Low blow

I love Any bassline that is done creativly, it can really spice up a song when played right biggrin.gif

Depends totally on the style. Slap Bass for Funk, Finger style for Jazz and some metal and a pick for other heavier forms of metal.

My favourite bass though is slow but technical lines that don't follow the guitars. In our band the bass is the lead instrument and the 3 guitars and doing harmony stuff around it.

This is one of my fav bass led songs.

Do you like fingerpicking over regular picking or vise versa ?

Slap is the coolest thing in my opinion which you can do on bass smile.gif Tapping can be interesting too smile.gif

I play bass on our songs with a pick. I can do slap guitar without a pick but am not great at finger style. I prefer the tight sound of picking. Finger style can be more uneven but that works well in a lot of genres.

He is an awesome player! I saw him playing with three fingers and I was amazed with his muting technique and how he built grooves with percussive muted notes inside, it sounded really impressive.. interesting bass player smile.gif

Yeah pick has a lot of advantages..It tight and precise sound can't be emulated with fingers...(unless you play with nails of your fingers when doing fingerstyle)..I couldn't imagine songs like Schism from Tool played without one smile.gif
