I just watched a History Channel special on what would happen to the earth if people disappeared. Not necessarily nuclear war or anything, though it touches on that. It was a very interesting show, and made me think about what we've really done that will stand the test of time. It details what happens to our structures, our history, and other life on earth from 24 hours to 10,000 years after our time.
For starters, read here. Some of the longest lasting structures on earth will be the hoover dam, mt. rushmore, and the great pyramids. Some of the experts on the show speculated that at least mount rushmore might be around long enough for our first "replacements" (who or whatever will follow us) to look upon due to being carved out of solid granite and being in a stable environment. It also mentions that radio broadcasts, which some people believe go out into space to possibly be recieved by other intelligent life, actually fizzle and break down into noise after about a light year. So all in all, very thought provoking. It seems to me that if we want to preserve our culture and history for others to look upon, space is the way to go. In the vacuum of space, the only thing we would have to be worried about is the universe collapsing on itself. Anyway, thought some of you guys might find it interesting! Discuss! We will survive in space, no doubt about that. Some kind of fusion of robotic life and our own will be able to live in space long enough until it finds another good environment to settle and develop further.

Large colonies, such as Star Trek (minus wierd clothing, aliens and Jean Luc's awesome voice), is not that impossible as long as there is some kind of vegetable patch and (allthough not nessicarily) animal farms so people could get meat. '
Of course, that's only temporarily while we try to find the planet Muris come from: Shredtopia =) -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!

Sounds like a plot from cartoon Wall-E I watched few days back I'm always interested in these themes so I'll try to see that documentary on History Channel... -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

It's a nice thought I agree, but look at what I said again Yup I read it but I'm sure there are some big green three-eyed aliens closer than a light year from here!! -------------------- Guitars:

Radio waves are extremely slow for space distances. Light too. Some other form of energy or waves, or "something" is needed to communicate. And even after that, inferior civilization will be unable to decipher code of advanced civilization. It would be like we send radio waves to mars where sheep lives and we expect them to decipher our language. And if those sheep are highly aggressive, easy to fear, and posses weapons to destroy Mars, then people would do whatever it takes to NOT send any sheep-understandable radio waves there.

Seems there was also a national geographic show on pretty much the same thing called Aftermath: Population Zero. Doesn't add much but some more "things" that might happen.

I think our race (as humans not color) would be dead by the time Star Trek years would roll by.

I think our race (as humans not color) would be dead by the time Star Trek years would roll by. Well, atleast the race Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Maybe we have evolved on to another race by then, which is a little more nature friendly? -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!
