I took another try at recording.

This time I used the acoustic Backing track posted my PickNgrin.

I am far from a shredder. Perhaps someday after many more years of practice. For now I am more on the slow and safe.

See what you think and give some advice. I need lots.

Hey, good job! I've been playing with that track a lot as well. Some comments:

1. Nice clean sound, and very appropriate note selection (apart from a couple which I'm sure you're aware of). You definately felt the chord structure and made a good scale choice

2. Start thinking about some more bends - you put a few in I heard, in this kind of solo, longer notes with bends up to them work really well, but you need a lot of sustain (which probably means a distorted patch, but try and keep it smooth for this particular song). Longer notes lets you mix up the pace a little.

3. Practice some alternate picking runs and try to incorporate them - 16th triplets aren't too hard at 72bpm after a little practice and they really liven the song up, even the simple exercises that Kris starts with work well in this piece.

4. Work on adding some vibrato - I thought I heard a little, but in a slow piece like this, phrasing is all important, and EVERY note has to have great phrasing behind it.

for improventen i'd say you have a few choises:

if you want a beautiful solo:
add more vibrato
don't land on the same notes too often

if you want more schred:
try variations with tempo
move up higher on the fretboard sometimes and swith between very high and very low notes

I have been playing with things like " Phrasing, tone and using 4 fingers"

I stopped playing for about 20 years (as a teen). and just took it back up. I have been playing with some different software packages and just started with a metronome.

I have learned more from this site over the last few weeks than from many years with a teacher.

I recommend this site to anyone with a guitar. I find it inspirational. My hat is off to Chris and the many people that make it great.
