On request from my guitar-teacher, I orderd a guitar theory book! It has arrived and I'm very eager to check it out. I like books and stuff, because I really have something to cling on to. It's Intermediate ROCK GUITAR, discusses anything from triads to major to harmonic minor to diminished 7ths... almost anything:D After this book there is one more, mastering ROCK GUITAR which should be really complicated. There is one REALLY amazing feature, in the back there is a section with a table like, MAJOR SCALE= And then songs that really make use of the major scale, also for the DORIAN mode and harmonic minor and many more!!! That's really cool, because you can check the song and recognize stuff!

I got a rock based riff book that does the same thing - teaches different ways to create riffs(such as semi tone riff, pentatonic rbased riff, etc) and then uses examples of popular songs with an analysis of how they were written.

It interesting, but I think creating a solo/riff needs to be a more natural process - is obviously going to come out of your skill set/knowledge. If it comes from reading a book, I am not sure its going to be very memorable.

Just my opinion

I made myself a book ^^
I printed out Andrew's Theory lessons, stapled each lesson together, and put them all in a folder biggrin.gif

That way I can read them on busses and airplanes, like I did yesterday. I felt smart, sitting between two slobs while reading about musical notations laugh.gif

Exactly the same. The difference is that i take my battered folder to some extreme places too like the rafting camp 2 weeks ago. People there were like backing away from me when they saw the tables about 7th chords. I had to reassure them that there is nothing wicked in this stuff... rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Although I think some handy ebooks or other guitar books can be really useful. Thanx Andrew anyway

Its always good to have a theory book , you can take it with you on trips where you don't have access to guitar and still practice "playing".. smile.gif
