I'd recommend a Rat Pro distortion pedal, they're modestly priced and cover a wide range of sounds. Used by a huge array of artists out there.

I second the Tube screamer, but be sure to get the "vintage reissue" (IE the more expensive one) , the tone is better

yeah bro, megadeth is my favorite band, your lucky to have got a pic with Mr. Mustaine biggrin.gif , i met him at a gigantour signing, but i got all nervous and forgot how to speak, so i couldn't say hi or anything dry.gif , but i met J.Lo and Glen and they were very nice

question about the tube screamer, will it still work on a solid state amp?, sorry ifts a dumb question, im new to OD pedals since my old digital amp did that itself

also, is it this one? http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-TS808-V...361-i1124276.gc

OD pedals will work on Solid State, but it will work much better with tube amps. OD's were invented to push tubes so yeah haha. I use a cheap FAB pedal, and it works fine for my Crate Solid State. I play Droning Doom though so I need an over staturated kind of distortion.

Thanks for the recommendations guys : )

sorry another noob question, but how do OD pedals work?, if i have my amp on a high gain setting and want to do a lead, is it as simple as pressing the button, or will it override the high gain and sound bad?

It will still be high gain, but with a bit more "color" or gain or boost that you will notice.

You may want to determine whether you want an overdrive pedal or a distortion pedal. An OD pedal may not serve you as well with a Cube 30 since it's not a tube amplifier.
Distortion pedals create their own dirty sound and the there are many really nice ones. A few decent distortion pedals include the Boss Metal Zone or ds-1 and Electro Harmonix Metal Muff. These aren't boutique pedals but are quite nice and get you from a light crunch to quite a high gain tone. One that is a bit nicer than these is the new Satchurator pedal, that's a very nice pedal but is a bit more expensive than the others.

I agree with Marcus, Tubescreamer is a very good choice, and also Guv'nor 2 is the pedal of choice for many metalheads I had chance playing with.

In addition to that, I think a good overdrive can come only from the amp, the pedals main function is to boost that overdrive sound.

Definitely consider the Tubescreamer , so many people use it and will give you what you're looking for...And if you need something just for boosting (to make leads louder) you may want to look into MXR Microamp pedal.

well I only need to a pedal for leads since my rhythm tone doesn't fit my desired lead tone, should I get and OD pedal or a distortion pedal?

I suggest you consider a smooth overdrive pedal for leads, to boost up your rhythm tone.

I'm sorry, another question

I was thinking of also buying a Boss Metal Zone pedal for a better rhythm sound, would an Ibanez tube screamer sound good over a Metal Zone?

I dont like the sound of Boss Metalzone. Its too restrictive or too digital. Even though its a Metal distortion, it has that trebbly awful sound. If I were you, I'd try the Metalmuff. Its the only pedal I use for Metal.
