Is Rock Dead?

Hey guys,

I'm not sure whether this topic is supposed to be posted here, but I'm going to do it anyway.

Lately I've really been wondering a lot about the following question: is rock dead? I mean, is it 'not cool' to listen to rock music? Around here it's starting to be like that. Listening to rock music almost certainly means being rejected. How come? I'm not the one being rejected, but a lot of people are looked upon as freaks because they listen to rock music. I just read a post by someone (can't remember who) who said that in the 70s rock was dead. Is that true? I really hope so... would mean that the next decade could have a revival of rock.

Anyway, let me know what you think about this!

It certainly isn't like that round me. It seems like there is nothing cooler than listening to rock music and dressing up liker a rocker. It's more popular than ever where I live.

Rock is not dead. It's just changing in ways that many of the older rock fans don't like. Not all of them of course but still enough to cause this question to be asked.

And rock is still cool depending on which kind (There is a lot of sub genres)

We get rock cover gigs all the time that are rammed. We have one this Saturday and there will be about 150-200 in this small pub smile.gif

Most people in the US are into rap and hip hop. So rock is kinda dead over here with the younger crowd it seems. Though, metal heads do exist smile.gif

Actually, I'm enjoying the fact that many rock bands from the 80's are making somewhat of a comeback lately.

I don't think Rock is dead, nowhere near!, Ok, there are many music styles, and different people listen to different styles, but rock has its fair share of classic and new band as well as old and new listeners alike.

Rock n roll is here to stay! :B

It comes back, in the 70's it was all about disco, in the 80's rock and heavy metal came back with greater force than ever seen before (I think), when I moved to Miami Rock seemed to be literally dead (at least the type of rock I liked), I mean I came from Ecuador, a small third world country that seemed to have more rockers than Miami.

Now I have seen a growing interest in Rock music and Metal again, I believe it is coming back, and coming back strong once again.

Thank god! I wish we could have another 80s-age. Maybe we should pursue the government to fund rock recordlabels more...

Rock isn't dead in the US, infact, like Jose said, people are now starting to get back into it again. It didn't die, it just took a decade long nap tongue.gif
If you ask me, Rap and Hip-hop are on their death-beds right now. I hear more radio stations dedicated to rock than hip-hop, there's only one that plays that stuff strictly. others either fully play rock, pop, or a combination of the three. The scene's been struggling to stay 'fresh,' which apparently isn't working very well cool.gif

The good old 70's rock is certainly dead here and there aren't many metalheads either, so we are vastly outnumbered.
But together with my brothers I'll stand strong and die for metal ! laugh.gif tongue.gif
Everyone seems to be into postmodern-rock and emo is almost becoming fashion dry.gif

That's right, though I think Emos get fewer in the last time. In my environment most people listen to Punk or Indie (which is very popular in Germany), especially the girls. biggrin.gif

Me, definitely. But if everyone who likes Rock/Metal etc. screams at the same time, do you think everyone would stay in the scale? huh.gif Otherwise it will sound horrible. laugh.gif

If rock managed to live 40 or more years, I am sure it will live at least 40 more or will never die.
