Hi GMC,

I decided to post one of my videos in this thread. The reason for doing so is I got a lot of responses on my first collaboration and people asking me what is motive, what is development and things like that.

This video was recorded using some Microphone in front of the amp I recorded two guitars , rhythm and solo both one take only. Entire thing is improvised but I am very proud of it as it sounds like a composition in real time.
This was recorded on March 24th 2008 , a week before I left Boston MA and returned to Serbia. So at that time (week before I was leaving) I had a lot of things going in my life and on my mind so I just sat down and decided to speak musically about it. Hopefully that improvised solo will tell you some story as every time I hear it I remember certain things in my life Oh and don't mind the editing part, I just felt one picture was enough for whole thing , didn't wanna make MTV thing out of it

Ok , back to reality

The intention of this video is to show you what motive development is along with rhythmic development, melodic shapes, phrasing, time feel (regular vs double time feel) and many other things - but for time being focus on these
See if you can hear and spot these things in the solo.
If you can, you are on a good way of becoming complete musician! If you can't, you need to listen more music and analyze it as all the secrets are there but you are the one who has to reveal them

Anyways, I hope this video will be useful for your future solos and compositions as well as collaborations.

awesome! The only thing that could improve is that the guitars sound too similar. Sometimes they "collide" and in unison the resonance themselves providing a peak in the volume. Everything else is very good. I even liked the scratch from the position shifting, somehow that was placed perfectly and enhanced the whole tune

Pedja, this sounds so awesome. I am really flabbergasted. I feel even more respect to you when seeing new videos. Your improvisation skills are so amazing, mate. Please don´t stop your great work.

Well Pedja, aside from it being a great piece, I think your asking if we pick up on any of the things you have listed by ear.

I get the sense you are going to "double time feel" around 30sec in. Seems the signature at the beginning is 4/4. You start using a lot of short note's (16th's I presume) to give it that feel.

As far as the melodic shape, are you using more of a "square shape" approach?

When you hear this whole improvisation you will notice constant balance of slow and fast rhythm. That naturally creates Question and Answer type phrasing.
For melodic shapes there is straight shapes (notes going up , notes coming down) as well as mixed ones. They are great to take out and practice improvising with them

I have so little time right know but I always try to give the guitar and your advices some minutes every day. Doesn't always work but I try hard.

Don't worry about time - we all need more time - but continue to use the time you have wisely and it will be great improvement.


I do miss Boston but I think I would have to move my family best friend a gf in order to live there my whole life

Here is another video of mine. This one was recorded sometime in 2006 or 2007 , I can't really remember
It was taken from customized video lesson I did for my student from Thailand The purpose of lesson was to demonstrate different rhythmic things over simple ONE CHORD VAMP in order to expand improvising ability.
Repetition , sequence, motive development, double time feel, outside playing, question answer phrasing , melodic shapes - its all there. Check it out if you get a chance.
