I want to put my laptop straight to my not used amp to get some nice sound of my music here and it works except:

If I use it with the battery I have no problems but when the power's on my amp keeps making a very loud humming sound.

Does someone know how I could get this away?

Edit: when I put the cable straight into the cabinet in stead of using the head the humming is gone but it's ways less loud.

Poweroutlets do cause humming.

Laptop into cab isn't ideal since you need to amplify the signal before it's audioable. Since you can hear anything at all tells me it's a rather stong signal.
Laptop into amp isn't ideal either. A line level- and an instrument level signal differ. Worst case scenario when experimenting with connections inbetween different perhperals without minding the signal strengt is a *poff*, smoke and the smell of burnt circuit.
And since you can hear it pluggen straight into the cab I wouldn't reccomend putting that signal strengt into an amp.
Be carful!

If your amp has a CD In then it works. Or atleast it did with mine and didn't blow up.

It's not a wise idea anyway to be fair. Amps like that are designed specifically for instrument input and speakers for computer equipment and hi fi's are very different and are designed for very different purposes. You are likely to get some white noise no matter how you use your guitar amp to play laptop music just because this isn't what it was designed for.

That is strange if it worked on an older one though.

It's hard to say without being there and seeing it infront of me. Like MickeM says if the about of power being thrown about is too high then something will go. All laptops are different of course as well and it really depends on a lot of things. It may work fine or seem it but it could blow your speaker, your laptop soundcard. It's always risky using an item not for it's specific intended use.

Do you maybe have a hifi or some regular speakers you could use? That would be complety safe.

I would always recommend using regular speakers , there are cheap plastic systems 2.1 that will work much better and safer then using the amp as your speakers smile.gif

You're welcome ! smile.gif
Please consult with similar things in the future when connecting equipment that isn't made to work together usually, in order not to make a fire smile.gif (like I did with my PC) smile.gif
