As some of you might know, I bought a Mesa Boogie Mark IV a few months ago.
I'm having a love/hate relationship with it as sometimes I hate the tone I get, other times I am in tone heaven...
The beast is very complicated and I'm more of a plug and play kind of musician.
Anyways, I know what the amp is capable of doing so I'll keep it.

Now recording the amp is another issue.
I could mic it, but it is so loud!!!! Just not gonna happen.
I read about some isolation cabs and especially about the axetrak.

Has anyone used them before?

Any suggestions of gear you've used similar to that?

If I remember well Randall has a couple of these aswell. Could be wrong though.
I also belive it's possible in the randall models to place the mike differently above (I belive it's facing upwards) the speaker inside.

It'd be possible to build a soundproof box, expect it to be rather big though with all the isolating layers. The only connection with such a box's outer world would be the four feet it balance on.

Sorry but what do isolation cabs actually do? O.o Oh btw what mic are you using?

Basically if I understand well, the iso cab is hooked up to your amp's speaker out.
It's a closed box that is miked so that you can push your amp at high volume in a small apartment.

Hmm, I'm not sure about isocabs, they tend to muffle the sound as I've red on the web. I haven't tried myself in practice tho. I agree that making a big isocab for your Mesa amp would be a good step, but only if you are DIY kind of guy and have powertools. Materials should not be too expensive, couple of hundreds probably.

Hi David smile.gif

If you're going for a isolation cabinet I would go for the Grendel Sound Dead Room smile.gif
LINK!

I've spoken to people that have tried both and they claim the Grendel Sound Dead Room to be better..
It's bigger though, but it's supposed to be very good smile.gif

When I asked them about it about half a year ago, they said it was 700$ incl. shipping to Norway, so it wasn't that bad (If I remember correctly that is..) smile.gif

Including shipping? That's a good price then, it's probably around 400-500$ in US then, if they are made there..

Try one of these. Pretty cheap to experiment with, all the reviews say it works with no alteration in tone. Regardless of the title saying it's for Fender, it works the same for any amp with an effects loop.

Omnisonic Volume Box for Tube Amps

I bought one but mine has not arrived yet so I can't review it myself.

I've got one of these little gems and I really love it. You should have a serial effects loop if so this would work. You get so much better volume control verses using the amps master volume.
