We came home last night...to find one of our dogs dead on the couch. It looked just like she was sleeping, and just died in her sleep. My 4 year old is crushed, she was her dog. This is especially tough on her because our other dog passed away last summer. The poor kid. The dog was only about 4 years old and has been acting perfectly normal lately. We searched the house, she didn't get into anything poisonous or anything like that. She couldn't have choked on anything because she was laying on the couch just like she was sleeping. I have no idea what happened. Pets are great...but this is the down side.

I hope you and your family are ok. I know what your kid is going through. I was about 5 or 6 and saw my dog get run over. The next year my new dog died while I was at school. Just a suggestion, my parents went and found this childrens book called dog heaven and it really help me. It made me feel alot better. It might work for your daughter laugh.gif I hope things get better man.

I feel for you and yours here Ben.

There's also a very good book called 'Goodbye Mog' by Judith Kerr for young children. It's actually the last in a long series of picture books about Mog the cat. As the last book Mog finally dies and goes to cat heaven.

In the last 12 months my daughter has lost 3 cats (including her favourite) and a rabbit and no matter how many fatalities she's seen it still upsets her deeply. We live in the countryside and one major consequence of that is that we both see an awful lot of animal fatalities and also sadly our pets die on a regular basis - from accidental poisoning, being run over, accidental shooting, etc. To date nothing malicious though. It's not easy to deal with or explain and as resilient as she is, and no matter how much she rationalises what has happened, my daughter still cries for her missing pets some nights.

So my sympathies Ben and hope you and yours manage to work through it.

Best,
T

Very sad to hear man

I feel sorry for you and your family.

Animals are like children they have a place in the family, you'll get attached to them.

Maybe ask the vet what could have happened.

That's weak man, I feel for you and your family.

I lost my 2 cats after 19 years last year to that poison food thing, that also sucked.

Wow, that is sad man.
My heart goes out to your 4 year old especially.
It's kind of a blessing that the dog went away in his sleep though. Still sad though...

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I agree David, that is the way I would want to go! My daughter is doing pretty well considering the situation.

Thanks again
