Ok, this is not an outstanding solo , but it's an improvised take i did today. I wanted to focus on improvisation in this class collab and to be limited on only chord notes in each bar turned out to be quite difficult actually. It's easy to jam over this backing, but each time i added "not allowed" notes.

Cool take Andy, this works However you know what I will say right ? Do more takes if you want to, always good thing as you can learn from each take you do about your style and correct things you don't like. |

Hi Pedja! Here is my take Arpeggios_collab_no_BT.mp3 ( 565.33K ) Number of downloads: 145 Arpeggios_collab_BT.mp3 ( 565.33K ) Number of downloads: 177 Hi Sergio, For this in class type collaboration I am just asking for arpeggios/chord tones that follow the actual chord progression. I heard various tensions on G7 and a lot of superimposing on other chords, therefore I can't accept this take for final mix. Having said all this, musically speaking there is nothing wrong with this take, it just doesn't match the standards of what this collaboration is all about. If you get the chance record a simpler take just by following arpeggios/chord tones of actual chord progression. Thanks Sergio ! P.S. I know you can play more than that but right now its about playing less not more |

hope that this is what you are looking for, was very difficult for me to find because this area is completely new to me its not really speedy runs but i like the melody and in my oppinion it fits great to the backing some kind of funny sound like in the film "the clou" *hehehe* hope you like it Harry

Here's my take Pedja.
Gotta say that this was a great exercise. I'm not terribly satisfied with my take though. I either recorded it too hot, or with too much gain. ...probably both for this style. Still, for the purposes of this lesson, I think I did ok to stay with the chord tones. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks again for the focused topic. This is something I can keep working on and use forever in my solos. Please auto-sign me up for the next one! 20090320_Pedja_Arpeggio_wBacking.mp3 ( 832.65K ) Number of downloads: 226 20090320_Pedja_Arpeggio_noBacking.mp3 ( 832.65K ) Number of downloads: 165 This post has been edited by JamesT: Mar 21 2009, 02:53 AM |

It sounded very musical and you followed all the instructions. If I had to be picky and pick a weak spot, it was the very ending when you were coming down over D min7 chord. At one point you played non chord note which is not good So if you get a chance to record it again but correct that one mistake, it would be absolutely perfect ! I am glad you enjoyed this focused topic. I totally agree with you, this is something you can put in your practice routine and work for a long time. The point is eventually to stop thinking of shapes and make music with it - which you did to most extent in your solo ! I will auto-sign you for next one no worries |

Ok Pedja, here I come
This is my first rough approach, I kept it slow and laid back - but maybe a bit too laid back especially when listening to the other takes with overdrive, arpeggios and such. Maybe - to keep up with the majority of the takes - i will post another go at it. I hope I understood the "voice leading" idea correctly because I tried to apply it a few times when switching chords. It's a great backing, thanks for the opportunity chordtone_collab_berko_w_BT.mp3 ( 817.06K ) Number of downloads: 176 chordtone_collab_berko_noBT.mp3 ( 817.06K ) Number of downloads: 145 |

You did everything I asked for regarding soloing approach. On the side note, your phrasing is weak in some sections (sounds like you are ahead or behind changes) so thats something I would correct in next take. Overall I won't grade you on phrasing but it would be nice to have everything in sync. Very good work with arpeggios and chord tones, you also applied voice leading which was cool ! Thank you Berko |
