hey everyone, ive been looking into getting a schecter hellraiser c-1 fr for awhile now but when I tried the thing out at guitarcenter it didnt play as good as my ibanez 123 mh. The first thing i noticed was the strings they had on the thing Sucked( it was like they have been on the thing for years). and sinse the neck was painted it had kind of a sticky feel to it..on the upside it sounded amazing(even with the a guy going crazy on the drums behind me, whoever designed the store thought it would be nice to put the drums right next to the amps..)
BUT they had a white one that had a broken floyde rose, and it played and it played way better, concidering the flode rose was broken) and the neck didnt seem to stick to my hand as much. could the paint be different? how could this be possible? well I have to say im more confused about buying one now than before testing it out..

I have a C-1 and about 3 months ago I bought an Ibanez RG series. I have maybe touched the C-1 once since. I just seem to be able to play more easily on the Ibanez even though I love the Schecter and will never part with it. Stickyish finish on the neck of the C-1 is one reason it is harder to play.

well, first off, with any guitar at Guitar Center thats been out for a while, the strings are gonna be horrible, thanks to the assorted amount of people who've played it. sweat corrodes strings very well. tongue.gif

about the neck finish, i find gloss finish stickier when its clean. i usually don't wipe my neck down after playing, unless i've just changed strings or something. It makes playing easier IMO. That could also be why the white one played better.

Also, Ibanez necks are slimmer than Schecter's, but really, it just takes some adjusting to. either way, the C1-Hellraisers are great (albeit a little overpriced now), I'm planning on buying the Non-Floyd 7-string Hellraiser, its amazing! Happy hunting biggrin.gif

I want to like Schecter because they look great and come with a good price but I can't cope with their neck radius, it feels uncomfortable to me for some reason.

yeah i agree, it is a bit overpriced and im sure its because of the paintjob (which looks killer though) so im looking into buying a used one. and if it doesnt work out i might have to go with a fixed bridge schecter

From my experience, the demo models that you can actually play are beat to hell in Guitar Center. Especially the ones like every teenage shredder wanna be will be drawn to. The more expensive Strats and Les Pauls tend to not be played by knuckleheads that abuse them. I would suggest asking the clerk if they have new models in the backroom and if you like the guitar have them get one of those and leave the demo model on the wall. This is what I did when I bought my Ibanez from them.

Also, if they don't have another unplayed one, you can have them order one from another store.

well i did ask them if they had any others and the only one had a broken floyd rose.. so i think im going to wait untill my local guitar store gets one in stock to get a better opinion on the thing.
oh and i tried out the synyster gates custom guitar and I have to say it has a unique sound i wouldnt mind shredding on it more often cool.gif

a broken floyd rose

Btw, is that maybe a warning signal on the quality? Or just a terribly beat up guitar?

I don't think it's Schecters fault when an Original Floyd Rose is breaking.
Overall, Schecters are Korean made - Good guitars but not THAT great and with their increased prices the Value isn't as good as it used to be...

I don't think it's Schecters fault when an Original Floyd Rose is breaking.

Oh I wouldn't say that's entirely true. Depends on if the damage is in the wood or not for example, which in either case would be "a broken tremolo" by general defenition. Some other damages that also could be Schecters "fault" since they assembled it. But it's likely as you say that it's the FR itself. But I wonder, since an Original Floyd Rose would carry half the price of the entire guitar I'm guessing it's the cheaper Floyd Rose they put in the cheaper Schecters. Just a guess.

I think it was the previous owner that broke the thing, but it was still selling for 500$, used and with the broken trem..

Ive talked to a few people who have owned c-1s and they say that the stickyness on the neck is hardly noticable after playing for awhile, I also notice that the flat finnish on the schecter ATX guitars is more forgiving and is almost as smooth as normal necks..
