So I visit my local guitar shop about once a week. I walk by it nearly every day on my way back to my apartment from my classes.

Anyway, recently I've been looking into possibly getting a classical guitar, and I found this one guitar that I liked much better than the other guitars in this shop. It sounded SOOO much better then every other classical guitar in there, and I was taken away with it as soon as I picked it up. Now there is a pretty large showroom for acoustic guitars, and the price range for this showroom (this was the lower-end showroom) was about 100-700 dollars.

So I'm taken away with this guitar, but the only catch is that, for some reason, this guitar does not have a price on it (every other guitar in the room did). I didn't bother asking anyone, because I was really just there to play it, I'm not really considering buying it at the time. No big deal. Now I've been going in, ever so often, to play this guitar for months. And earlier this week, there was a price tag on it...

$699!!!!!

looks like I won't be getting it until I get a real job...

oh well

anyone else have there eyes set on a certain guitar for a long time?

Ouch

When I first laid my eyes on, and played, a Nik Huber Redwood my mind was set!
Hehe, it took me a while, and traded in a lot of guitars and other equipment to get that beauty
Now I own it, and I|ve never regretted it one bit!
It's a thing of beauty and plays like a dream

And when you've wanted that special guitar that much, for a long time,
it's even sweeter when you bring her home and open that case and smell the fresh and musical air reaching out

I say you should save up and get it, you won't regret it mate

I agree, save up and get it, it might take a bit longer than you expected but it pays off

Besides, if you get a cheaper one you will most probably end up saving again and finally getting the one you really craved for, so buying "inexpensive" gear is many times actually more expensive in the long run

There's a few but the biggest, and longest-lived, lust purchase is this one:



It's even down 2k in price since I started ogling it during winter of this year. I don't need it, ever, but it has a HUGE stack of awesome features.

EDIT: Since the forum resized the image (it wasn't that huge to begin with) it may not be clear that the image is also a link to the product page. Here's a quick run down:

- the usual parker fly features (piezos, 3-way trem, bizarre composite material neck & fretboard, etc)
- neck pickup: sustainiac
- midi out

The big silver knob is a stack of variax presets which are picked up either by the bridge pickup OR the piezos in the bridge itself; I'm not 100% certain. Regardless, the onboard variax system includes 10 user-programmable at either end of the knob's rotation. When the variax is engaged the five-way switch becomes part of the program selection. It's pretty freaky.

I once had my eyes on a Fender American Strat (it's not an signature model, but it's basically a reissue of one Hank Marvin played in the Shadows days) in a cool faded orange color with maple neck. It was just my kind of strat in other words. It was new and it's been in that music shop for less than a year, and I just thought to myself "People are mad if they are not buying this fantastic guitar". I shouldn't have said that tho. I went down to buy it the day I finally had the money for it (priced approx. 1200$) and it was gone!!! I was down there just a week earlier and it was there at the time! Then just a week later, like me properbly, some lucky guy had got his paycheck and bought it just before I had the chance
Worst thing about this is that I later found out it was someone I knew who bought it, when I saw him using it in a local gig. I just had to ask him if it was "the one strat", but I already knew the answer, since it's not a Strat you see everyday.

I have a very recent story like this too, but not quite so personally heartbreaking since I wasn't going to be the buyer.

After NoSkill pointed me towards some nice Jackson Soloist --that we even found in a gorgeous orangey maple flame top-- I started considering it an "intermediate" lust-guitar to my "want to buy" list. Meanwhile, NoSkill had actually started bidding on it, as it was on ebay. He was finally outbid beyond his preferred budget and we later happened to be talking about it in chat. Turns out we both knew a friend of the buyer:

LOL...I was just going to tell that story, when I read Jafo's reply. I've been lusting after a Jackson SL1 Soloist, for years. I did finally find one that I was really Jonesing for...but, as Jafo said, it went past my comfort zone. It was pretty funny when Jesse came into the chat and told us about the new guitar that his friend just bought. I feel for ya!

I was drooling over my American Standard Stratocaster for months at Guitar Center. I would take it down...plug it into a Fender tube amp and just marvel at the sound clarity, and playability of the Strat. I LOVED this guitar...but couldn't bring myself to spend $1,000 on it. So then GC announced a big sale weekend - 15% off! So I could get it for $850! I convinced my wife to let me get the guitar, and rushed into the store. Where was it?! It wasn't there!!!! I searched around, and there it was...in SOMEONE ELSE'S HANDS BEING PLAYED!! (being played quite well I must say!) I was nervous as can be...and then the guy put it down and started bargaining with the salesman about which hardshell case he could get to go with it. So, like a ninja I swooped in, picked up the guitar and found my usual salesman. He was ringing up the total and the guy comes over to me and asks "Are you buying that guitar...because I was going to buy it." I told him "Oh, I didn't notice you were interested in it...I've already paid for it." "Ok, enjoy it!" he said!

Phew! My baby almost got away!

Jafomatic I hate you!!! You had to show me that beauty haven't you?! Now thanks to you, I want to buy that guitar! Its not even remotely possible for me to buy it as I live in Turkey and in my friggin country Parker guitars doesn't exist!

Seriously, its a great guitar, I am already a fan of Variax and Piezo and Sustainac and Parker guitars but this combines all and MIDI out? Wow!

I saw one of these in my friend Dave's Guitar Shop when I went in to pick up a new Dean that I'd ordered.
I asked him how much and when he told me I said 'Hold on to it until I can pay you!!!'
Unfortunately he couldn't do that as someone had already put a deposit down on it!
I was in there again a couple of months later and he said 'Come and see what I've got for you in the Back of the Shop!'
So we went out the back and there, in it's case in a corner, was one of these in Graphite Grey finish with THE most amazing Quilt Maple top I'd ever seen!!! It took me a year to pay for it, but at the end of the year when I finally took it to rehearsals it blew everyone away!!!

It's a Palm Bay Tidal Wave. One of the best Guitars ever made in England!!!
Please don't ask what happened to it as that's a very painful memory!

What a versatile instrument. Part of me loves it but part of me leans towards a more purist and traditional approach.

I have to say though that I find that headstock quite ugly.

That's alright, I knew someone would!!
Basically, it got stolen about 3 weeks after I got it. It wasn't covered by any insurance and worse than that is the fact that I am sure I know who stole it (as well as a lot of other Gear) and couldn't prove it!

Ouch that's painful bet you were miffed (and that's putting it lightly)

The absolute worst of it was that it wasn't just that Guitar! There were others, along with a £3000 drumkit, Bass Rig half our PA, Mics, Cables etc!!
All told it was around £20-£25000 worth of Gear!

*Still 'miffed'*!!!

Is the guy still able to walk or chew solid food?

Unfortunately he is. I've never been able to prove it outright!
