It is better to play C#7 as mixolydian, not phrygian. The same goes for E7 chord. That's because phrygian is a minor mode - it's got minor 3rd in the scale. Our dominant 7 chord has major third. Actually the best scale to use there would be phrygian dominant. Same as phrygian but with the major 3rd. That's the 5th mode of harmonic minor. We haven't done these yet but I just thought you would hear it. In our case we need to have some kind of a dominant 7 flow over that chord. The easiest option is just to throw a dominant 7 arpeggio (1, 3, 5, b7) and you would hear that you're sounding great smile.gif

Okay, this was a bit beyond my understanding when I was doing the assignment. I will play closer attention to it in the future. There was a point, when I was playing C# Phrygian where it was sounding off, but then the moment was gone quickly after a few notes, and I was sounding right again. I continue to read.

smile.gif Good spot. That's because you had a minor third in your scale over a chord which has major 3rd. That one note didn't match smile.gif

Hi. Good job with charts apart from minor 7 one. I thought you would make it like I did with little circles. Those are easier to read for me but it's ok, whatever you find easier for yourself.

Minor 7 arpeggio doesn't have b5. You wrote min7b5 arpeggios which is from the Locrian mode. I need that one fixed. We need 1, b3, 5, b7. That's our min7 arpeggio formula.

In dom7 charts you have a 6th on the A shape. We don't need that note in the arpeggio.

Send me the min7 one again and I am waiting for the take of these on Sunday smile.gif

Well, I wish I could tell you what I was thinking with that Minor 7th chart. I should have checked my work before I submitted it. The 6th in the Dom7? Ooof. rolleyes.gif I have fixed the Dominant 7 and Minor 7 charts and a PM with a link is in your box.

I understand the dots are easier to follow. They are for me as well. This way was more for a study sheet of information rather than position. I'll most likely make dots for practice.

This is good smile.gif

Just add the last maj7th on maj7 arpeggio (A form) - the last note.

Thanks for the update, great work. The only thing I wanted is to have roots painted in different colors. That helps a lot smile.gif

That arpeggio assignment was quite tough for me. I hadn't spent ANY time visualizing roots before, so it was essentially entirely new. I was going to go through all the patterns in sequence, but I started focusing on the root of the shape and found it a good exercise to do them the way I did so I could try and drill where everything was, and why. I'm not sure it was a good strategy, but...*shrug* I seemed to have the most trouble moving around the d shape spending most of my recording time getting mixing up dom7 and min7. I may have just been tired.

I will continue to practice them and in different keys while I work on this weeks stuff.

Thanks!

I think you did well. Your hard work was obvious but now you need to practice for the improvisation take. I found these very useful when I was learning them. It's a bit of a brain work but later it opened many doors for being comfortable on the neck.

Some tips for improvement. You start every shape from 6th string down and up. You can also try to develop something in between. If you find your self finishing the bar on the 3rd string then you can continue from there to the next arpeggio. That's the real beauty of this. Also yopu don't need to go note by note in order. Always try to come up with some different paterns. For example play 2, 1,3, 2, 4, 3, 5, 4 - that order of arpeggio notes. There are many different ways to make it more creative.

Yes, I tended to panic and bail out to the 6th string. I'll continue to practice these regularly. I see the importance of them. When working on collabs, I've often been frustrated that I tended towards strict modal or pentatonic playing but with minimal note and string skipping as such my phrasing becomes mundane. The arpeggios have really opened up some ideas in my head for sure. I just have to be MUCH more familiar with them, but that will come with practice.

I'll get to work on the Dorian scale assignment. I'm deciding between a few lessons for REC. I have to tighten each of them up a bit but I will have no problem on making the deadline.

Cheers!

I've been working on the sweep picking exercises (2 string) from Jakub's thread. I'm only at 130, but I'm just a day in and it's very new to me. I did a collab for Daniel. I've been working on the vibrato from your beginner neoclassical lesson and working on cleaning up the faster legato parts from your Bmin Ballad lesson. I did that lesson for the faster vibrato and to work on the precise bends. I have the lesson down except for the end run that moves to 32nd note triplets. I'm not smooth there. I was trying to do some video last night but was having technical difficulties trying to get my right and left hand to stop fighting.

I'm also working on your rock lick collab but I've noticed my personal lick library has some bare shelves on it, so I'm scanning lessons for some things I can learn.

Just an update.

Cheers!

Some baby steps with this technique....Also, Daniel's collab take. I tried to do a neoclassical theme to it. I'm not sure if it worked but ... Daniel Classical Collab
