Hi Pedja,

Tried a more cleaner version and I changed the progression a little bit so they sounded more logical.

Tried to think more in the scale than the first take.

Here it is: Attached File  1e_assignment_second__take_basis_bewerkt.MP3 ( 1.52MB ) Number of downloads: 241

Robert!

I listened all your takes over different versions of chord progression. I think your solos are sounding very mature at this point. Your approach and sound remind me of Santana a lot. Decide if you will keep it that way or start changing the way you approach the solo smile.gif
Overall I am very happy with what I heard in this assignment. We will work on some new material in your next assignments!

Robert here is your 2nd assignment!

2nd assignment:
Solo/improvisation/composed melody over D Aeolian mode

- Record backing track using following harmony : // D min7 / G min7/ A min7 / D min7 ://
- Tempo of your choice!
- Assignment is focusing on D Aeolian mode so you will need to make a solo, do improvisation or simple compose different melodies over that backing track.
- For extra assignment, try to transcribe your solo/improvisation/composed melody in guitar pro.
- Make sure you loop the track and anything above 30 seconds of playing is acceptable!

Deadline for your 2nd assignment is 19th of June!

Let me know if you got any questions.

Hello Pedja,

I have made this analyse of the progression
: // D min7 / G min7/ A min7 / D min7 ://

The progression is base on the 3 minor chords (4 part chord harmony).

This progression may either be based on:
A. The key is F major. F Ionian scale = F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F .
The progression is based on: IImin7, IIImin7 and VImin7

B. Or the key is of Dm. Dm scale is : D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C
The progression is based on: Imin, IVmin, Vmin

Because Fmaj has a relative minor which is Dmin the key of the progession is F maj.
D Aeolian is the sixth mode of the F major scale.
D Aeolian Scale Notes: D E F G A Bb C
Aeolian Scale Formula: 1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7
Aeolian Scale Intervals: W H W W H W W
There are 5 position on the neck tp play this scale: 5, 8,10, 12, 17

Cheers
Robert

Somewhat good analysis Robert!

Chord progression is actually in D natural minor. You did right by mentioning how F major has relative minor (D minor) but this progression you have to look as D minor progression because D minor is your starting chord in it and everything leads into it (whole cadence, I IV V, all minor chords).
Look forward to what you will make out of this assignment!

Hello Pedja,

This is my first recording using D Aeolian mode.Attached File  2e_assigmnet_chord_progession_backing_final_second_solo.MP3 ( 5.97MB ) Number of downloads: 240

Next take I will try to do more a constructive way by tabbing it in GP file. But this was a way of making me feel good with D Aeolian mode. The next take will be a lot shorter than this take. wink.gif

Attached File  2e_assigmnet_chord_progession_backing_final_short_version_first_solo_c.MP3 ( 2.49MB ) Number of downloads: 229

I tried to concentrate on fret 5 until 12 to play the D Aeolian.
I tried to play as easy as possible included some rest and long notes al to concentrate on some kind of melody lines

I also try to tab a melody but first four bars where inspiration for doing this short track.

Hello Robert,

I have looked over your Guitar pro file and listened to the actual solo. Solo is fantastic and very melodic, it fits the backing track and mood of the composition. Your guitar pro however is not so great and we will work on that in future. Melody was right but rhythm placement and basically where your phrases start and end was not correct. We need to do some counting, writing down beats, subdividing rhythm in our mind (using 8th notes like 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and etc) but we will get to this.
I was happy to see that you did backing track, explored some modal harmony ( D aeolian) and recorded melodic solo which you also tried to tab out!

Great work my friend. Expect remaining 2 assignments later today!
