Ok. My band and I will probably be performing in this year's talent show at our school. (If we make the tryouts) Do you guys have any tips for stage performance? Like things to do?

Move around, if you have stage space use it.

Don't try to pull off anything too stupid that you're not comfortable with. Just have a good time and it will show in the performance.

Thanks man, its much appreciated since the talent show tryouts are tomorrow. Any tips on how to impress the judges? (Other than the music) Like when we are warming up should we pull off some solos or something? Or just play the music and leave them with that?

Maybe have some cool groove going while you introduce the band and after a member's name is announced, they do some cool fill/lick. That always seemes to impress, hope this isn't too late!

I completely agree with not doing anything you're not comfortable with live. I play for friends sometimes in own room. I naturally don't go for something that's particularly risky. I might mess up. I'm a lot tenser playing for others, opposed to being by myself. However, I found that wearing sunglasses is a great thing to "hide" behind. It's crazy, but it shows it's all a mind thing.

Good tips. Don't catch yourself standing sentintel for long. Keep moving around if possible

Yes, I guess you could say that.

Well, aside from the moving thing (which of course is very important, but out of sheer experience - it's not going to come too easy, so don't expect to find yourself swinging your axe like Steve Vai when he was young and literally juggling with his guitar on stage)

It is important to be able to play your songs as accurately as possible and in the mean time, transmit a good vibe to the listeners - that means that you believe in your music and thus, you are ready to make others believe in it as well.

DON'T try to impress anyone by pulling all sorts of complicated licks out of your pocket - they won't come out good - it lies in our nature to try and show off with the most complicated thing we know, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we also MASTER it, especially in stressful conditions.

The stage is very different from your bedroom or practice place:

- make sure that you do a decent sound check - it'll save your life when you perform. It is essential that everyone can have good control over his personal instrument and can also hear the others around.
- make sure you prepare your tone and have a good sound - a band with a bad sound has thumbs down from the start.

Attitude and stage showmanship come with experience - the more you perform on stage the more comfortable you'll become with it!

These are but a few things which are very important, so go out there and do your thing like a professional and you won't have anything to lose!

Slowly drag up a chair, sit down uncomfortable, whisper 'hi' into the micphone, fiddle around with the guitar attempting to tune it and noisely plug in the cables... make Laa laaa laaarrrr sounds... and say this is a song writen for my mum.

Then jump up, kick the chair back and suddenly break out into a heavy metal lick! Drums rolling in. Fireworks and smoke machines setup kicking in. Scream your head off and head bang. Have a blast!

Everyones too serious, lol, just go there have fun man. Don't overthink it.

Yeah, I tried looking for the oldest thread. But would it be in GMC section, or what? I just took a guess. I didn't want to dig up the oldest thread there was, because it didn't seem to have something I could easily discuss. I dug up the first oldest thread I came to that I felt I could bring up.
