So, I accidentally deleted my real explorer.exe file in C:/Windows while deleting others that were viruses... I can still use my computer, but it makes it extremely difficult, as I have no start bar, no icons, no visual interface whatsoever. I have to run everything through the task manager.

Anyways, I was wondering if there was any way that I could download the explorer.exe file anywhere, or replace it somehow? The real one, not the virus... I don't have the CD, so I can't reinstall it...

By the way, I have Windows XP.

I tried searching for explorer.exe to send you but couldn't find it on my computer (that runs on XP). It's there in the task manager so I suspect it's executed from within XP in some complicated manner.
Try googling for your promblem, you can't be the first to do this by accident.

Check if you have fall back points, what do they call them... system restore points something.

I tried a system restore already, it didn't work... Google had a lot to say about problems with explorer.exe, but I couldn't find anything about replacing it. Thanks for the effort, though!

Nevermind, resolved the issue! I had someone send me a copy of their file, and it worked. Thanks!

Whenever my pc is too slow, (like when I´m watching a film on VLC Media), I just delete the explorer.exe from the processes list after doing CTRL ALT DEL on my keyboard. Usually when I restar, it just starts back up.

CrtlAltDel brings up the task manager and stopping the process removes it from the active process list rather than deleting the program from the computer. This in itself can cause instability in a Windows
Env but is usually relatively easy to recover from. Before you stop any process it is a good idea that you check its dependencies and so on.

Deleting/uninstalling explorer is not for the faint hearted and rather complicated. Get it wrong (or even partially do it) and you can have problems with desktop, active desktop and a host of other windows apps.

Cheers,
Tony
