As I said to the Warrior group, we're going to be visiting the blues for a little while because it's always a good place to rest a while and focus on basic melody and phrasing. So much of what we do is based on the blues and if we want to get better at out pentatonic phrasing then why not just go right back to the source ?

This lesson uses notes from both the minor and major pentatonic. When you see that written, it usually means that occasionally the major 3rd and major 6th is used alongside the minor phrasing.

It's a laid back backing so you've got plenty of time to nail those phrases so try to keep the bends as accurate as possible and allow the vibrato to happen

Ooh I see. Well Gab does have valid points (I think he may be just launching a full frontal attack on The Bushido Students ! ) so they're not wrong.

The way I view takes though is that I don't expect students to mirror the exact same level of finesse or perfect technique that the instructors are able to pull off. Even though an instructor is making a low level lesson, the touch of the player still remains 'top notch' and I don't expect GMCers to necessarily match the same level of mastery over the vibrato, bending etc. Hopefully that makes sense ?

An analogy would be like getting someone who has been singing a few years and is still learning and putting them against a professional Tenor but getting them both to sing a very simple melody. Although the melody may be simple we can't expect the learning singer to have the same maturity of delivery as the Tenor. Not yet, at least.. but soon !

Thank you Ben for your input. That totally makes sense. I know Gabe is right, but I was not prepared to hear it I thought I had it pretty well, and the comments plus the 8/10 were ... not what I expected. But I am grateful for the honest comments they did. That's how you can improve.

Cosmin pointed out that I lack of confidence when playing. He already told me this on a previous take, and I totally agree with him. But whatever I do, I can't seem to progress on this area. Any idea ?

To be honest, us humans usually view confidence as a possession.. something we either have or we don't. That's not true at all. Confidence is actually an attitude, a state of mind and is something we can 'turn on' when we need it. All confidence is actually false

What you need is to say 'F**k it' when you go to play and just not give a s**t too much.

You know you can play so there's no worries there. Playing whilst recording is probably more to do with it and I think it's more about nerves and concentrating hard and trying not to mess up or do anything too 'risque'. It's very hard to loosen up and be relaxed when you're recording it. I feel like this every time I record myself so it's not just you.
