hey dude smile.gif Im honestly a bit lost with these arpeggios. I dont know if they should be played in order like Im just playing each note of the chord or if I can use any note from the arpeggio in any order. I tried watching a few examples on youtube but they weren't very good.
when I try to play them over the backing track I just cant seem to get any sense out of them.... its weird.

here's an example of what Ive been doing, maybe it will give you an idea of where Im getting lost.

You did a very good job! Got the idea right! Now I would like you to take notes from those arpeggios and try to create a melodic solo! You can use notes in any order! But think arpeggios instead of the scales!
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!

thank alex, I'll do my best to try and get something melodic.
Why would arpeggios be used instead of scales, is it just for a different feel or sound?

The reason is if you are thinking arpeggios the whole concept of your playing will change and it is a good exercise to make your brain to work in a different direction! smile.gif
I am looking forward to hear your take!

Perfect!!! Here is a new assignment! smile.gif
I have created a new backing track!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/chord-progression
The chord progression is:
Dmi - Bb - Gmi - F
I would like you to create a solo pretending it is in the key of F
You can use
D minor pentatonic
F major pentatonic
F major scale
D minor scale
Try to be as melodic as possible and let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything! smile.gif

Hey! I just wanted to follow up and see how are you doing?

Not too bad... I think smile.gif
here's what Ive came up with :
http://soundcloud.com/bleez666/chordprog

I found it a lot more difficult trying to get something lower down the neck. the scales higher up were a bit easier to use.

Very nice!! I can hear a lot of progress! smile.gif
For a new assignment I would like you to use a different type of scale!
Last time we did F major
Now I would like you to try G minor and hear the difference! smile.gif

Here is what I would like you to use:
G minor pentatonic in this positions:

You will hear a much more minor sound! Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions or need help with anything! smile.gif

cool, that sounds very interesting ,Im looking forward to trying those scales out.
I thought that if a piece of music was in a certain then you would have to use scales from the same key.... I guess not smile.gif

Well the things is this piece can be coming from two different scales Bb and F the reason is that all chords are used in both!
I did this on purpose so it is easier to hear the difference between scales and modes! smile.gif
Looking forward to your take!
