Hi Cosmin ,
yes you are right with what you say about my record van halen...

i must concentrate to much about where to put my fingers and than listen to the rhythm needs more time

recording too with garageband and i movie two separate line and one too for the backing track

mixing together a nother experience rolleyes.gif

i will keep on exercising that van halen one to make later on ... a better record smile.gif

Your Katataonia style lesson i stil like but by now i will to stay with standard tuning to get more into music

I must start from the kindergarden on step by step i recognized.

Have a good day Dieter

Hello Cosmin,

i didn't finish , van halen yet and still working on it - will take more time for record now,

but too ,

i think now i would like to go back into Katatonia in slow motion tempo 40.

Dropped D tuning with my strat , i think its the right guitar for further tuning styles.

Would you take a look at me ?

In a week or so i record my first exercises here on thread .

All the Best !

Dieter

Hey Dieter! I had no idea that it hit you so hard smile.gif But I am glad! I am friends with these two girls called 'No'mads' - they are a Romanian medieval music group - one guitar and one violin. They re-orchestrated this Estonian traditional song here:

The guitar player is an old friend and after having the dream and listening to a lot of their stuff, I came up with the 'Fairy's Dance', which I am happy to know that you like so much.

Well, I am looking forward to see your take and in the mean time, if there's anything else you need, I am here and all you need to do is ask smile.gif

Good morning Cosmin!

Just saw and did hear your new lesson about modes , very interesting !

Right now i still work on helloween lesson what is hard for me , but i like to play this song because it is fast and i am not used to play things like that - but i wanna make this One with Gabriels help.

I started other lessons too but its to much right now and helloween was the first one i did try - long time ago rolleyes.gif -and should finish it now.

Only one lesson after the other working on for GMC record is enough for me wink.gif

In between time i like to play around and maybe participate on a Collab its relaxing and fun .

Ok there is more to do for me !

Sins i am back from france there is a lot to do privat and at work and i took a while to get back into rhythm.

What helps me in between is studying some old Kata`s from Goju ryu - helps me to get back into feeling myself and after i am relaxed and energy is in balance .

This morning i recognized when i am listening and reading about your New Lesson ,
time to get into a line with studying and finding back on my way of guitar playing.

Could you help me to get into modes step by step i mean a kind of homework to find a line and routine to get into it and understand !?

Dieter

Hey Dieter!

Sure thing man - I'm also glad to hear that you are getting re-acquainted with the martial arts - yesterday's experience was INCREDIBLE for me! biggrin.gif

Anyway - regarding modes, you must know and understand that, everything is based on three things:

1) Learning to hear the differences between them - this involves ear training and knowing what scale degree is characteristic for each mode
2) Knowing where those notes are on the neck
3) Knowing how to combine notes which chords - that all goes down to understanding what is the actual effect of playing a certain note/ group of notes against a particular chord

Would you like to start this right now or first finish the Helloween lesson?

Alright Dieter!

Here's an introduction to the theoretical part:

What are modes? I will tell you what they are, but first I would be curious to know what you know so far:D Can you please give me a definition as you see it?

After that, you must know that the modes can be classified like this:

Major (the contain a major 3rd) - Ionian, Lydian, Mixolydian

Minor (the contain a minor third) - Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian, Locrian

If we look at the major scale - the Ionian mode, as it is also called, we will notice the following structure:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 -> these are the scale degrees of the Ionian/ Natural major scale

From this point we tweak this formula to obtain the other modes wink.gif

Lydian -> 1 2 3 #4 5 6 7
Mixolydian -> 1 2 3 4 5 6 b7
Dorian -> 1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7
Phrigyan -> 1 b2 b3 4 5 b6 b7
Aeolian -> 1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7
Locrian -> 1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 b7

By 'b' (flat) we understand that we raise that degree to which the 'b' is attached and by '#' we understand that we raise that degree to which the '#' is attached.

Now, let's try an exercise:

We have the C major scale (Ionian) and I would like to obtain C Lydian and C Mixolydian - knowing the above formulas, can you apply them over the C major scale structure (C D E F G A B C) and tell me what notes make up these two modes?

If there's anything unclear, please let me know smile.gif

Ok Cosmin here i go !

C Lydian :

C-D-E-F#-G-A-B-C F# a higher note

C Mixolydian :

C-D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C Bb a flat note
