Ah, cool! African music is so wonderfully diverse (well, not hard to understand that). I love the roots stuff, but some of the highlife and other big city music is so infectious as well.

One of these days I'd love to see Femi. But I don't prowl the clubs like I used to. It's really hard to get me out, seems like. I guess I've 'cocooned' -- but man, I'm going to be one crotchety old butterfly if I ever come out of this thing.


I probably seemed a bit over-eager when I jumped into the thread (my first posts here) but I was just kind of delighted and surprised to find people who shared so many of my guitar interests.

Yeah that Afrikaans stuff kicks ass! Remembers me of some african friends I had "in former times". And the videos are always fun to watch, too. I think I would like to play some Caribbean stuff (ukulele? like izi is....) or jazz (playing over one hundred chords in a single song :-D).

I always thought that the ukulele was incredibly difficult to play because of its size Then again, it's quite the same thing with the Mandolin..

I play guitar because it comes naturally and easily, but let me make a confession: I'm not a guitarist! I do not feel guitarist!
When I tell that to my guitar students, they say I'm crazy, they dont understand as I can say that. But I tell you that I'm a musician more than a guitarist.
What I really enjoy is composing symphonic music for movie soundtracks. I studied piano at the conservatory and is the instrument fills me most, I think the most complete to express music. And after that I really like the section of violins, violas, cellos and basses in a classical orchestra is what makes me feel in another world.
I enjoy composing classical music, I enjoy playing the piano. The guitar whenever I like less ...
And like you, I enjoy when I hear a musical texture, as if time stopped and you feel like floating.

Music is music over styles and instruments!

Wouldn't mind havin a go at the violin even if it's extremely hard....an instrument that can create sounds that go through flesh and bone...
