Hey guys,

I'm an intermediate guitarist wanting to move into the advance territory. I really want to get into shred / fusion guitar, but the learning curve is pretty high compared to what I come from (blues, funk, and classic rock). Some guitarist I'm really into right now are Guthrie Govan, Shawn Lane, Satriani, Vai, Gilbert, etc.

Could anybody recommend some particular lessons for developing speed while alternate picking? I saw one which was a sort of "intro to speed picking," but after watching that I believe I'm already above that level.

Thanks,

D

Hi Dioxic!! Welcome to GMC! I don't know your current Alternate Picking level but these are some of my favourite lessons:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...n-speed-bursts/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ernate-workout/

Hey Gabriel!

Thanks a lot for the recommendations. The first one is great! I can't play it up to speed yet, but that and the other ones will probably help me tie up any loose ends as far as technique goes. The last one will take some working up to, but it'll be a good goal!

As well as improving my alternate picking I'm also attempting to work on my sweep arpeggios and legato. With sweep arpeggios I'm pretty new, I can do decent triad and 7th sweeps, but they aren't 100% perfect yet and anything outside of those shapes I'm a little unfamiliar.

As far as legato goes I'm a total scrub believe it or not. I'm not totally devoid of legato abilities, but when using it outside of "speed bursts," and more so a constant speed thing I'm totally new. Any particular videos you'd recommend?

I love this site! So glad I found it; definitely the best guitar website on the web.

Ok mate! It would be great if you can share some videos of you playing solos or exercises with these techniques to let us give you some feedback and to see your evolution. For legato, the best would be to start working on the "land of legato" series...

Seems like you'll have your hands full already! smile.gif

As far as Fusion goes, I highly recommend the Greg Howe lessons by Jose Lassaga.

It's true! Jose did a few lessons here but all of them are very inspiring. His technique and fingers are very impressive.
