Nope didn't think so either. We all know parents don't get this.

I can show you how to be the virtuoso your folks could only dream about, but I first need your help:

* Pm me and I will show you where to start. I am online every day and I will help you out directly!

* Join my mentoring program. I will customize your learning experience in a way you haven't experienced before. We will have regular contact so that you can remain inspired every day and eventually reach a new level.

* Join my next video chat! GMC startpage holds a video chat schedule. We always cover a lot of ground and have fun. Remember that you don't need any previous knowledge, and you can be passive in the chat.

* Jam with me - you will find active collabs here.

* Post a topic on this board, guitar related or not - doesn't matter! You will find that chatting with instructors boosts your motivation to practice.

* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

Hey DWR!

Wuzzup mate? biggrin.gif

I listened to both takes and my thoughts would be the following:

- the riff - if you would record it against a metronome, it would sound tighter and more in time - right now it's floating in the air, even though the idea in itself is good and it can turn into something both rhythmic and melodic in the same time! Can you do this for me please? smile.gif

- the ballad - there are some sour notes indeed, but no biggie, they will all go away in time - tell me mate, have you played this melody after hearing it in your head or you just noodled with positions? This is very important and it'll allow me to take the discussion in an interesting direction with you, as we will start working on ear training smile.gif

Hi Cos,
It took a lot for me to post that, but I know I won't really progress if I don't open myself up to criticism.

Riff:
All in all, I really like the riff I came up with, and that came from hitting the open A string by accident, and then playing part of a C major, and I was like "Hmm that sounded pretty good." I actually hear in my head how to proceed, but I haven't found the notes yet on the guitar. I will play against the metronome, I know it needs to be tightened, I wanted to record the idea while I still had it in my head from discovering it. Do you think we could expand on this, and make it into something?

Ballad:
It came from noodling around, but as I did things I would hear in my head the progression, and I would figure out how to create that. I love creating my own stuff. I have 3 phrases that have came out of the noodling around, possibly 4. I would like to expand this as well.

So to answer your question, the initial ideas, and phrasing came from noodling around with the C Major scale, and then I would hear in my head the progression, and figure out how to do it.

I have been reading a book by Erich Andreas called How to be a Guitar Ninja. Guitar Master Simplified. He hammer certain things you must know. Knowing the fret board,Scales (knowing, and building them), Chords (knowing, and building them), Rhythms,Barre Chords, and Ear Training. I started with the C Major Scale, and have been practicing that to learn the fret board. He writes in such a way where its very easy to understand.

Hey DWR! Of course they can be expanded and perfected 'till they shine like diamonds smile.gif

Now the first step is to record them against a metronome - at a slower tempo maybe, at first, just to be able to get a good feel of things and we'll take it from there. I'm with you on creation! Show me what you've got biggrin.gif

Hey mate!

I love the sound of this! Let's make a deal - you record it against a set tempo and send me the track and tell me the tempo ok? How fast are you able to do this? smile.gif

It was weird to play with a metronome, I am not sure I succeeded in playing with it.

Mate, unfortunately, the tracks don't quite match the tempo, but here's what I suggest - I will record the idea as I hear it and work from that point on smile.gif What say you?

I think that is best, because they are just musical ideas. I wouldn't mind help in learning from them, and making them shine. I already know I need to work on my timing. I get a kick out of musicians like yourself who take my idea and make them awesome. I think you were trying to possibly to add some accompaniment to what I already have, but I can see the challenge, when I have no real sense of timing just yet. lol

I like it, but it doesn't sound like the main theme (idea) of what I did, but you did say inspired.Just to give you an idea of where I am coming from, what was coming out of me. To me, it represents moving on to something better, having to move on to something better, but taking the scars with you. So the music has some dissident notes. I like the solo'ing over it, really cool.
I will work on my idea, and maybe you can hep me clean it up, and expand upon it. I guess the first thing to do is really get some timing for it.How do I do that?

Hey mate smile.gif Well, you must first put your idea into place by giving it a form. Like a theme or a famous riff - it should have a form. After finding the form, try to see where each change is occurring against the beat. Both takes don't actually respect any sort of timing - but that's what we want to fix, right? smile.gif Find the final form of your idea - one that you can hum even if I woke you up at 4 AM
