Being able to recognize the exact rhythmic pattern is really useful, not just in a band situation, but also during transcribing or learning existing songs. So for purposes of practicing this skill, I have chosen a short segment from Billy Cobham's "Red Baron".

Question:

What is the rhythm starting at 0:12, where the repeated segment begins?

For the first correct answer, I give out a special gift: the downloadable Timeless Hour Bonus Pack, with lots of goodies in there (TABs, full backing track, and a bonus track).

Answers can come via Guitar Pro or Tux files, or it can be define with words (e.g. 2 eighth notes, then 3 fourth notes...)

Good one!
I know this tune well. But I'm not sure if I wrote the rhythm correctly. Or whether I should write it in 4/4 or 2/4?
Except for JT - no peeking.

I've also never been satisfied with my assessment of the harmony (chords) in the last 4 (or 2) bars - ?

Thanks for your answer, Ken! I would use 4/4 for writing this.
The rhythm is a bit trickier than the one in your solution. It revolves around a specific number, which is
Spoiler:
the same number, as C lydian augmented would be in comparison to A melodic minor.

Lol!
Yeah, I had a feeling I was simplifying it a bit by not including the golden mean in there.

This maybe ...

You are on a good way to win the bonus package. One step closer, using the triplets:) It's a bit more tricky, though. Hint: there must be exactly 15 notes in this measure, and the 15th note is the G on the high E string.

Spoiler:
Duh - oops, copying error. The final low G needs to be on the 1 of the next measure.

Thanks, I think I got it? I had to write a chart up for that really quick several years back and I knew it wasn't right. Funny, no one busted me on it. Good players too. I'm sure they knew the lick w/o having to read it and didn't really pay any attention.

Yes, the low G is on the 1st beat of the next measure.

Your's is definitely still 'more' correct than mine with the 3 beam over the first set as well.
If you don't mind I'm actually going to adjust my chart with your rhythm figure.
