Hi guys! I was reading something curious about the progressive metal band Queensryche, who became very popular thanks to his masterpiece "Operation Mindcrime". Some time ago, they fired their singer Geof Tate, but he decided to form a new band called.... "Queensryche". So the result is that there are two bands with the same name, one with the orignal singer and another one with the original musicians...

So now the funny question is: which is your favourite? biggrin.gif

Geof Tate's

Musician with Todd La Torre

Do you have any other example of bands that split and finally we have 2 with the same name? Another that came to my mind is LA Guns.

well... if I leave the fact behind, that a great band lost its greatness over the years - whats the point in replacing a singer with his voice double?? unsure.gif unsure.gif

Also, DOKKEN had that issue for a while smile.gif Seems a few 80's type bands have two versions running around! I have to say it doesn't sound like Queensryche without Geof Tate.

Then gain, even he doesn't sound like he used to. He has been belting it out for decades and the poor guys voice shows some wear but I still dig his vocal style. It's not for everyone for sure, tends towards Opera at points. There is a note he used to hit in TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME that he now sometimes let's the audience try to hit for him live and it's a riot to hear thousands of people singing several octaves above their range smile.gif

So the true "fans" won't recognize that it's a double ? rolleyes.gif

I would add Rhapsody , which induced Rhapsody of Fire, and now even Luca Turilli's Rhapsody huh.gif

Queensryche went downhill once guitartist/songwriter/backup vocalist Chris Degarmo left. He ended up becoming a pilot and working on a few projects that never really went anywhere. I was particularly interested in what he was doing with Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains - they had a band going called Spies for Darwin, but I never heard a single song from them.

Queensryche was at one time my favorite band and ever so often I'll listen to the old stuff, but I have not purchased a single thing from them since Degarmo left.

After listening to those 2 songs, I prefer the QR with the band members. The vocals sound more like Tate use to sound before he we sort of fell from grace. I like the heavier, more aggressive stuff, and the vocalist reminds me of the Tate up to the MindCrime album.

Good addition! I knew that there are two Rhapsody bands now.

I didn't know about that collab by them, I hope that any time they record someting because it's very promising.
