Hey guys! I'm starting this thread because a student asked me about this and I think that it will be interesting to share our experiences here. HE wants to convert a 150 bpm backing track into a 100 bpm backing without altering pitch.

I tried with Nuendo and the result isn't good... do you have any idea of how to do this?

i use reaper to that kind of thing.
If you create a new project and first set the tempo of the project to the original speed of the backing, in this case 150,
then open the backing into reaper,
right click the backing and look for 'SET TIMEBASE' and make that 'Beats (position, length, rates )'

you can then change the temp of the project to 100 ( or whatever ) and the pitch will be the same.
In reaper the project tempo is at the bottom.

Thats what I do anyway, seems to work smile.gif

Not sure about the quality comparison to doing this in Reaper or other software like the Amazing Slow Downer but this can be done in Windows Media Player by right clicking at the top then hovering the mouse over "View", then "Enhancements" Then check "Show Enhancements"
After that you can see and choose from the Enhancements and choose "Play Speed Settings"

The Amazing Slowdowner - and I wasn't the one recommending it - Guthrie was biggrin.gif Kidding aside - it is my main tool for learning/sorting out songs and practicing! Awesome, just awesome!

I've never used something like this for learning extremely fast solos, like some by Guthrie. Does it work?

Yes it does - I mean you can slow things down to 20% of the actual speed or raise the speed to 200% speed, or alter the pitch without changing the quality - it's uber awesome biggrin.gif I once heard an interview with Guthrie and he was speaking about this software and I thought I'd give it a shot - it turned out that I am using it since 2010 or so
