Hi guys. Just wanted to share a video from a last gig of one of my bands - Jamming Cherry. It shows some of other things I do aside from heavy rockin'. Hope You'll enjoy. BTW...I love to play with fingers only...

NIce! I'm a finger picker myself. Always get strange looks from folks when I play fingerstyle electric, but it works for me. Thanks for sharing!

For sure. I often get asked about why I play with a pick, so I wrote out my story a little while ago, might be interesting if you're a fellow fingerstyle player.

I can't make a full switch to fingers but I agree with the concepts You point out in Your article. I think It's a very good way of building tension if You start with fingers and finish with the pick...at least for the things I usually play. But I will never say to anyone that any of those is better or worse smile.gif)) I was beginning on the classical guitar in a music school so playign with right hand fingers was always familiar...but years later I started to use it with electric soloing

Yeah, everyone has to make their own choices for sure. I started with a pick, then switched after about 8 years to fingers only. It's been 10 years since then and I don't miss the pick. But I play a certain style of music where I don't need a pick. If I was doing more metal or shred stuff, I would break out the pick, but for the jazz and Brazilian music I do fingers work great.

I use pick, but I'm getting closer to start using more my fingers. I have to train a bit my right hand. I really like the tone and the feeling that you can get using fingers, even more for jazz and blues styles. If you haven't checked Andre Nieri new lesson, you should. He combines pick with fingers in a very smooth way.

Like I said on your Facebook page, this song sounds great. I love that piano intro and for a minute I miss my piano (I’m at office). But when I heard it your solo I realize again why I am obsessed with the guitar. The guitar sound it gives me the feeling that I can’t replace it with any thousand pianos. I have the same mad pleasure when I play and when I hear electric guitars. I’m not a big fan for acoustic guitar.

I like the sound when using the finger because it’s much warmer. But I prefer a combination between pick and finger. For me to use the finger is ok for short musical parts.

I love finger picking as well - for me it's a combo between fingers and pick - as long as you can give notes the expression that you desire, it's all great.

Jeff Beck, John Mayer and Mark Knopfler are among my favorites in what regards electric playing and in the acoustic realm... All the new breed of players that perform percussion and slap/pop techniques on the acoustic guitar are great!

I like piano but always misses the that wiade range of articulation that guitar has smile.gif I'm not surprised most piano players go directly to some jazz-like playing. They have no muting, pinch harmonics, bends, slides etc...at lest not so many articulation tools as the guitar...so they mess witrh the harmony smile.gif

Matt...Of course You're right...Unfortunately I'm not a kind of player addicted to some specyfic genre so I could define myself with some particular technique, one amp and one guitar that I'll be know for having all my life smile.gif Currently I'm maybe more up to trying to add some blues or fusion flavour to my playing rather than trying to become a different type of player smile.gif

Jeff Beck is actually my number one...because of his uniqe "weird" tones. If a kid at home would play like Jeff probably his parents would make him stop and said " Kid...go and learn how to play...instead of all those falses You make" biggrin.gif But Jeff is a player who does all those "falses" and they sit as hell smile.gif

Nice vid, and nice playing smile.gif

I can barely use my fingers, hehe..
I'll play some fingerstyle rock every now and then, but that's as far as I go. I Wish I could play more fingerstyle though...
Maybe, when I'm done with my Rock/Pop/Funk/ cover of Deep Purple's Stormbringer, I can practice some more smile.gif
If I ever get done with it that is laugh.gif

Thank You Dave! This is an irony of a life..

Most of things I play in live bands are more like this - pop, blues, funky a bit o fusion but my web image is something completely different. Maybe this was just I way of making true some of the rock metal fantasies...that are not coming out in the band work smile.gif

I started off with classical guitar lessons, and got accustomed to finger picking. My fingernails aren't very good though, so the tone I get from finger picking is pretty much only flesh tones smile.gif Then I went electric and it's been mostly picking with a pick, but I enjoy fingerpicking with my accoustic. When I recently picked up the bass, I fell in love with finger-picking style - mostly for the rhythm aspect. It just feels really natural to keep a rhytym using only fingers and it's really *fun* doing it that way on bass. I haven't tried using a pick on bass yet biggrin.gif Not sure if I care to.

Chris!

His individuality is striking indeed - if my kid would play like that, I would devote my whole life into helping him make it big laugh.gif

Also talking about this topic... I really like how Kotzen is playing nowadays... using just finger picking. However I wonder if it's true that he plays all this rocker riffs just with fingers live, as he plays in this video:
