So i've finally found someone who actually wants to make a project. he is a vocalist and sings in a power metal stylish vocal. We've been trying to come up with certain ideas and something different than what I usually do, which has taught me new things. Also i got a synth vst which i like and used here . I think that it lacks a little bit of homogeneity - by this I mean, what structure does it have? Usually, the simplest one would be ABABCB - that means verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge (or solo), chorus. Right now, it's more like a few ideas put together, in my opinion, of course. How do you see it?

Hi mate, I agree with Cosmin about structure. It isn't clear, you should define it. Also I don't find section that has a chord progression that could work as a power metal chorus, do you have it?

Count me in to the Gab's and Cosmin list. Those ideas are pretty cool but it lack some smoothness when You combine them. Try to build a tension. Search for some cool connecting licks, fills etc so it would have more consequence as a full song.

i like it. and as for structure, (style aside) i'd say it reminds me of early My Dying Bride, when they had long intros. also slightly of Opeth. don't end the song there. instead follow Gabe'n'Cosmins advice - build a structure one could follow but bring back these themes for and interlude or outro. this sounds like the beginning of an epic song, man. keep up the good work.

thanks a lottt man, i love My dying bride! so that's awesome it reminds you of them. i've been wanting to create that gloomy atmosphere mixed with other things. The end I deff agree, i still haven't completed it!

Don't rush yourself man 6 years ago, I was totally convinced that I will NEVER be able to write a song from A to Z and in the mean time I have released 3 albums and a great number of compositions - but I understood that the more you do it and the more relentless you are with your creations, the more you will get from them. Of course, if inspiration doesn't come, you can't force it, but you can stimulate it by listening to music that other people have written and learning how to draw it from what life offers.

Sit down with these ideas and try to develop them into a structure such as the one that I talked about Intro, Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus - see what you get and post it here, deal?

Im going to rearrange the song! and i was also wondering like does it have to go in that order? i've been paying more attention to song structures more now! so thansk for opening my eyes haha. It's just going to be a pain in the a*s to move things around!

Hehe! It doesn't necessarily have to go in that order - but it's a good starting point, as you need to get yourself used to managing song structures. Pick up 10 of your most favorite songs and analyze their structure. What patterns can you observe?

I recommend you to start analyzing the music that you listen to. Pay attention to structures, how they combine the different parts, even if it's possible write it down and compare them. This will be reflected on your compositions.

agreed absolutely. when i was in the band i was in whist living in washington dc, the hardest part was arranging each songs structure. the guitarist and i just had TONS of parts floating around and we would literally spend hours piecing songs together.

btw - Cosmin, sorry to use another dudes post to catch up with you, but its relative - i'm still working on my arrangement of What a Wonderful World. its taking so long because 1) i don't read music and i had to rearrange it for bass and in another key and 2) trying to find chord voicings that compliment each other without sounding muddy/disharmonious. almost september. i hope i can finish and learn it by then. ciao.

The main thing I noticed was also a confused structure. After the first heavy blast beat section, I think it is too early to introduce yet another change to clean. You've just had a clean section as an intro so the blast beat section really starts the whole thing going. I would keep things heavy but change the beat.. maybe something more steady, with the snare occurring on the 2nd and 4th quarter notes.

I do like the next clean interlude, but I think should occur much later, in the middle of the song.

Also, watch out for your rhythm playing over the blast beat riff... you're a little ahead in front of the beat.

Hi mate! Congrats on the evolution of this track. The overall sound is better, the rhythm guitar tone is more clear now. In this new version I understand the structure and the addition of that melodic section makes it much more catchy now. I miss bit some of the synths that the first version had but I think that the improvement is very big.

Hey Marco - indeed, as Gabe said, this version is far better and structured Now, as I see things, the next steps would be:

- placing the vocals
- modifying the structure and current orchestrations in such a way that the vocals will come in nicely

Until you find that form which is close to perfection, you will have to tinker with the song a lot, but once you get the process, you will not feel like it takes forever, you know
