My question is are some people not able to sing? I always feel I can't whereas my Dad sings beautiful Klapa music which is traditional music from our country as well as my brother!

My brother works in a different city and doesn't play any instrument, recently he asked me to find a vocal teacher where he lives and I did.

After only 2 weeks he sent a demo to my dad and his singing voice was totally different from his speaking, sounded nice too besides the small mistakes. I'm going to ask him how he does it when he comes to a visit smile.gif

Nice!! I try to practice by doing scales on my guitar and I find I can hit the notes when I'm playing the scales, but I will say singing and playing guitar together is very hard for me. huh.gif

Based on what Luciana said in a recent interview that we have, I can say that with training and the correct coach everybody can sing. Some people has more facility and maybe a voice easier to shape from the beginning, but as everything in life, with training & discipline it's possible.

Hajduk, singing and playing guitar at the same time is also difficult for me to do! Especially when I'm trying to focus on doing both well. I think you have to know at least one of the two parts so well that it's just like breathing (and I think that would probably have to be the guitar part for me because I will always need to focus on the singing!)

I know I'm biased because I take voice lessons, but I really do feel that vocal training with a proper coach is really important if you sing a lot and are serious about it. It's so easy to sing incorrectly and form bad habits, and risk hurting your vocal chords. I know taking lessons is not an option for everyone but I'd say if you're really serious about it and can afford them, it's worth it! smile.gif

Hey Tom - we discussed this wink.gif and you were also present at the singing and playing v-chat session two weeks ago. I will re-post the link with that session and the answer is based on an idea that I have - I hear a lot of people saying: 'I don't have a musical ear' BULL... biggrin.gif EVERYONE has a musical ear - otherwise, how in blazes would we be able to learn a language, or recognize words and all that? Gabe is right about what Luciana said in the interview. So starting from this point, please go ahead and ask me whatever goes through your mind regarding this subject wink.gif

Please do! And keep at singing those scales - it's a great drill and why not, try with arpeggios as well! Have you already tried?
