My name is Todd Parks and I have been playing guitar off and on since childhood. In the last year or so I realized that I have very little to show for years of just doodling around with no real direction. I have always wanted to play in a band or collaborate with other musicians but never had the opportunity or the nerve to just jump in and do it. I found this site and was just blown away by the talent here.

There are a few guitarists that have influenced me but I came to realize a few years back that for every famous guitar player out there there are many more just as or more proficient. The difference in levels of success seems to be a lot of luck but also the ability to write compelling music and having the surrounding musicians to pull it off. That said I have been listening to a lot of Steve Lukather's work for the last six months as well as Stef Burns, Russ Freeman, Larry Carlton, and honestly too many to mention. For some reason I am drawn to Steve Lukather's playing lately and I think it is because his solos seem to take off in very interesting directions. It is painfully clear that my lack of music theory training has inhibited my ability to understand what I am hearing and why one piece appeals to me over another. I am in a rut and have decided to start over, using this site to start at the beginning. I hope I am not too old to pull off becoming the guitarist I always wanted to be.

I play a Roland equipped Mexican start that I love. I bought it off of Ebay some years ago and liked the feel of it so much I sold my PRS. I also play a Dana Bourgeois Martin Simpson with LR Baggs system installed. I do not have an amp so I play through Garage Band or Mainstage with Bose Headphones.

I am really anxious to converse with people in this community. Please shoot me message anytime.

Best Regards,

Todd Parks

Hey Todd! Wellcome in the family smile.gif I do agree...there are many awesome players in the world - not all of them lucky enough to be also famous but...as long as we keep our interest in searching for new things, there would be a chance for all the unknown smile.gif You've got a really nice list of inspirations. Maybe there is a chance we could see Your playing so we'll be able to better match Your support with lessons and tips ?smile.gif

We got some Steve's style lessons too. You can check Muris lesson as an example:

Yes;

My wife bought it for me some years back. I had a Martin D35 and wanted other equipment so one of them had to go. The Bourgeois won out. Haven't regretted it.

Hey mate - you can start a Youtube channel and upload the movie there, setting it on 'Unlisted', if you don't want it to be seen by everyone except for the people that you give the link to. And let me know about the practice schedule, ok? smile.gif
