I would be happy to have your feedback, your advice/criticize on the last composition I've just made this week end.
It is a kind of a jazzy/dark/weird ballad. I can't give you a style, as it is an original output of my weird harmonical brain. It is the first song I compose that is not metalish.

I love this dark mood!!! I like all song but the part that start at 1:14 sounds really cool

Hi Arthur! This is a very cool track. I like the overall atmosphere that it creates, it sounds like a soundtrack. The only thing that I can say is that the song could have a more explosive sections, or if that's not the idea that it could be shorter. It's a bit repetitive in some moments.
Besides that, everything is great! Well done!

Very mic song, I liked the ambient and dark mood of the song. Is it instrumental or are you going to add vocals, I imagined a couple of singing melodies while I was listening.

I enjoy listening to it with "replay all over again" option As for the composition it feels great as a very tasty soundtrack - perfect for "28 days later" movie Only thing that personally made me a bit less flavour is over compressed clean guitar. But...that's very subjective...it might have sense for You and doesn't appear to be any clear mistake

Yeah, it is really dark, weird, and atmospherical, I like that kind of mood and ambiance. I may be weird too for composing such things, but I am ok with that ahah .

In fact, all what I compose is instrumental because I just don't know any singer. Besides, it allow me to have the whole space for multi guitar/synth, which I like a lot.
But I would like to start composing with a singer sometime.
But not for this one I think!

I think you are right, that is also my feel. I feel that there is a bit too much repetitivity, and I need to place some riff in between repetitive riffs.
I am not really used to composing short songs, so I think that I will try and incorporate some explosive parts, as you say. Maybe slow and loud distorted rythmic, to add some brutality
I will try and do that!
If you have specific ideas in mind, tell me more!

In fact, it is only a draft, and I didn't took care of the recording settings or the mix. The clean guitar is indeed very compressed, but I will change that I think.
Usually, I compose and record at the same time, modifying, implementing new parts, and when I am done with the song, I record it entirely, cleanly and mix it.

yeah, that was exactly what I meant. I'm not sure who, (I think that gitarrero) posted this band at the site and I think that it's a good example of how you can make explode a post-rock song:

By the way, I don't know any post-rock band like that. But obviously, I love it. I would appreciate if you could advice me some more, with this kind of mood/atmosphere !

Really nice fluid playing mate! I think as Gab said, the sections are a little long, and could be a bit shorter. Still, it has a nice instrumental/post rock feel which I really dig! Great stuff

As a suggestion, you could play around with instrumentation and have the drums drop out for a section (for example). In repetitive music, you always want to be hearing for the changes

Amazing feel and dynamics mate! I think that the somewhat repetitiveness of the structure is not so noticeable due to the dynamic phrasing, so in my opinion, it's a darn good piece of music.

I know how it feels when you feel like you came up with something good You tend to let it happen a lot and listen to it so that you absorb its magic It happens to me often, so I understand. Now, it's time to sober up and see what you can do so this will develop into a structured piece with a clear direction in the structure - beginning - content - climax - ending - what do you say?

As you said, I am not bothered by the repetitivness. Besides, I am not completly done with synths, I think that adding some more could prevent it from being static, and help the progression.

You are right, I think there are many elements there for making a good song, but It needs a bit more work on the structure to make a clearer direction appear (as you know that's kind of the point I need to work on, on all of my songs!).

I will try and make a more noticeable progression, and also insert a climax, as you and Gabriel suggested. Seems like a very good idea.

About two minutes in so far and loving the feel of this track. It's dark and mysterious and reminds me a tiny bit of Dan Rock's Darkstar project with the guitars at time. Sounds very innovative to me as well. Not something you hear every day. Loving it! And the parts are so well connected! Well done!

Well, I don't know too many bands like the one that I posted, bands that combine post rock with powerful sections. But some of my favourite bands in this style or that incorporate this style in their music are: Explosions in the sky, Mogwai, The Best Pessimist, Steven Wilson, Buckethead, Sigur Ros. Check each of these bands, they are amazing!
