This could possibly be my best decision of 2014 already. I am selling my Xbox One that I just bought before Christmas. No more distractions from guitar from now on. Hopefully I will see big improvements in my playing as I will be dedicating as much practice time as I can:)

On another positive note. Selling my gaming gear will free up some cash to be spent on guitar gear. Its a win win situation smile.gif

I have two things on my mind. A guitar with high output pickups that a will tune in drop C. Or a second hand Gibson studio of Ebay.

Somethings are just more important Darius laugh.gif I had a car before but I sold it as I hate having to spend money on it. As soon as you buy a car the value of the car decreases and all you have to do is spend money fixing things.

Great decision mate! I took this decision around 15 years ago, so the last console that I had was an old Sega. I remember that in those days I also decided to delete Fifa from my computer because I noted how much time it was quitting me. Your days will be surely become more productive but remember to take time for resting and going out with friends.

I also remember playing the sega years ago. smile.gif Its amazing how many hours you can spend on playing games. Sometimes I felt like a was only playing for about 1.5 hours and I had actually playing for about 3 hours. Its enjoyable but not productive. That 3 hours extra on guitar will do me great.

The best games available are called musical instruments!!! IMO good decision. My latest amusement has been to buy a Bass guitar....Its been amazing to switch between electric guitar and Bass ...no play station sort of game is better than that!! ph34r.gif

This made me remember the last time I tried Guitar Hero... I said... what I'm doing? I prefer playing Welcome to the jungle on a real guitar!

I really respect that decision!
I wouldn't have done the same thing though, as I think it is good to have multiple things around to distract yourself from your daily job or whatever. I like video games, but once I finished them, they don't distract me anymore. And sometimes I don't feel like playing guitar and feel more like playing games, or vice versa.
But I guess when you get the feeling that you can't stay away from a certain thing, the decision to get rid of it might indeed be the best you can do.

When making such decisions the important thing is to keep the program realistic and not taking the fun out of it.

Improve and enjoying guitar to me is multidimensional. The fun factor can be the challenge, expressing or discovering emotion, social activity or musically intellectual (artistic or mathematically).

If one of these aren't happening while you're holding the guitar in your hands it simply means you mental or physically need a break. This break doesn't mean you have to rest, just focus to the other improvements to your life like hanging out with friends etc.

As for the program being realistic, always listen to your body and mind to determine a healthy progress. Some work better on specific hours of the day while others balance can be different. For example when I was a beginner everyday I bought a coke and practice until it was finished smile.gif it could be an hour or 3 but I guess the more concentrated I was the less I reached for that coke biggrin.gif

I could never just up and sale my video games, its what I grew up on. It's like my best friend! But that's so good that you've made the choice to move away to better you're chops and skills for being a better musician. biggrin.gif

I'm just a bedroom player, really no want to be famous. I'm doing it for the love that I have of music and don't have the time to be in a band setting as when most people are getting ready for practice I'm trying to sleep.

My schedule on the day I work is hectic. I try for 8 hours of sleep, from the time I get up to the time I leave work around 12 hours have passed. After work I try to do the gym thing and exercise because we need to take good care of our bodies and I think that it would be a good start for me. So I've lost another hour. This gives me around 3 hours left in the day. Which then is pushed into, dinner, guitar, and relaxing before bed.

Now after hearing how I work long days, I get lucky! smile.gif I have 3 days off. Which I get up turn my gear on, grab something to drink, and let the dog out. From there I let the dog in, check email/social media/forums. Then I pickup the good old guitar! I play well over 6 hours off and on in the days. If I hang out with friends that's usually when I game, we get some food, just sit back and enjoy the time. Then repeat this the other 2 days off.

I am pretty much with Gitarrero tho, when I beat a game I may not play anything for weeks. I actually have 5 games for my PS4, played 3 of them only beat 1. I haven't touched it except to watch Netflix in over a month. I don't try and over do anything. Because typically if I force myself to do something I will get burnt out on it, then who knows when the next time I will want to do it is. So I take breaks when my feelings tell me to do so.

I think there has to be a balance in everything we do to maintain the enjoyment of what ever it is. My problem with games is I like to complete everything and like to do it fast.I become very angry playing games laugh.gif When I know I should be having fun and not taking it so serious.I find myself playing games when I really am not in the mood just because I want to complete them.

I think selling's the xbox will not necessary make me practice more hours than I would do on a good day but make my practice more consistent each day. smile.gif

I am also just a bedroom player and more than likely always will be.

My old job made my working day just like yours and I did feel myself getting burnt out very often. Thankfully I now have a job closer to home so its 10minutes in a car to get there and back. I also like to keep fit and workout 5 days a week sometimes more. That was something I found hard was to juggle the working out, xbox and guitar after a days work. So either the guitar or the xbox got missed out. Now I can just focus on the guitar and working out smile.gif

Enjoy your 3 days off smile.gif

Enjoy your new gear! smile.gif It's always great to get a bit of cake for new spiff gear!

Go try every guitar you can get your hands on and then make the decision. If you've already got a gibson, maybe add something else to your collection? If you want drop C, maybe look at a 7 string. They default tune to low B on the 7th string.

You can always add some games back in later. Like everything in life, it's good to have balance. The problems usually show up when things get out of balance, like too much gaming and not enough practicing smile.gif
