I've been working out this solo for a couple days. I loaned out my camera so I'll have to shoot the video later!

I'd be curious to know what you think of the guitar tone here? I'm working with a new mic (sm57) and been working on improving my recordings. I still need to purchase a good set of monitors to give myself better judgement.

Now my friend You'll see no further tone complains! This is really great - warm and no more harsh treble smile.gif Same great job with the tone as with the take itself smile.gif

Hi mate! Your tone is very good one this one. Just based on my taste, I would add some frequencies around 3000 hz with an EQ, to make it shine more in the overall mix. Regarding your playing, your technique is brilliant, and there are some really interesting licks there. However I'm with Cosmin about the composition and direction. There is still some room to make the "message" clearer. This doesn't mean that you have to start again, this means that you still have to polish the idea.

I've been improvising over a small section of this beautiful tune..would like a little feedback from anyone...cheers: need refining!! laugh.gif
I made a couple of short Wav files...hope thats right... First try at collab so be honest with criticisms...I can take it!!

Yeah its about time Darius...I have to take this opportunity for constructive criticism...I will hopefully post something better soon, maybe something a bit longer. I took Cosmins advice a little too seriously when he said do short but catchy or memorable lines...I did the short bit! laugh.gif

This is good to hear. smile.gif You were the one who made me aware of the harsh frequency from cheap mic… and the tips with thte new mic have been helpful!

I will have to experiment with that 3000 hz and see hear how that sits in this mix. Thanks for your feedback. I will definetley try and polish the ideas in the solo.

Thanks Bleez, DeGroot and Cosmin. I'll take all of this into consideration and see if I can lead into more direction rather than 'staying'...I usually work on all the collabs although never post as they never seem right. I'd describe myself as an improvisor rather than a learner of lead lines..maybe that's my problem. This years resolution is to try and post a bit of music rather than hide...I'll do some more impro and hopefully get something better together! smile.gif

The more you do it and show us, the more we can help smile.gif You know, sometimes we are so stuck in what we do that we don't notice things which would be obvious for someone watching from the outside. It happens to me all the time biggrin.gif

QUOTE (DeGroot @ Jan 8 2014, 12:30 PM) *
Thanks Cosmin smile.gif I suppose it isn't a drastic tone change since I'm only changing the mic... It is still the same amp and guitar as I normally use. I will keep this take and send you guys video soon!

Thanks Bleez, appreciate it! Look forward to hearing your take

Once again - I think this is a sample of fine playing, my friend smile.gif Can't wait to see how it looks, as well!

well, this will be my attempt. I couldn't really getting anything very good for the first part of the backing so I just concentrated on the last part.

There are some! You're phrasing really goes into Zakk style smile.gif I wish You someday to be able to play the fast runs as well but the way You connect notes is very zakk-ish smile.gif
