Danish metal from 1984 right at you.

Being 4 years old, I did not listen to a lot of metal back then unfortunately. biggrin.gif

It seems that it has been a great album for rock / metal guitar as well.

Good point smile.gif But then again Pussy Riot actually performed in the middle of a historic church without a permit or permission.
Even if they weren't doing music they'd have probably still been arrested I"m thinking. Even still I thought it was really beyond the pale to throw them in prison for a "protest" but Mother Russian doesn't play around smile.gif

Aye man - well, in Russia, those chicks that play in that punk band - Pussy Riot - they got thrown in jail for protesting against the gov'ment. Mother Russia's faithful hounds never sleep..

'84 was the year i graduated from high school, and I have great memories of some of my first bands, and covering (or trying to!) songs by Dokken, Night Ranger, Extreme, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Dio, etc...

Good times!

the atmosphere is what can't be explained here. I lived 1 hour outside of LA, most of the heavy metal bands ,Ozzy,Dio,Metallica were not even played on the radio until after midnight .It was all almost underground , but very popular

What was the 'mainstream' rock in those days in LA? I mean, what was it that received the best airplay?

Billboard Hot 100 Singles for 1984

Other than 1 song each from Van Halen, Ratt, and Quiet Riot, nothing even close to metal, or even hard rock...

Man, you know, all those songs are VERY good compositions, even if they are not metal and finding Prince on No1 - that's something that makes me happy!

Good addition to this post! Pop was leading the world, but Metal was delivering some of the best albums ever.

This is interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_numbe...1984_%28U.S.%29

Only 5 number one albums in 1984, the fewest in history... I'm still looking for the list of the top albums for the year - It would be interesting to see if rock/metal did better as albums instead of singles.

Prince, Michael and Bruce at their best moment... difficult to compete...
