Was reading an interview with a Ph.d from a local University on DeathMetal.org today (here is the link http://www.deathmetal.org/news/interview-m...f-west-georgia/
and was impressed with his take on music culture in general. Of course, it will probably rub some folks the wrong way or not at all, but here is his thesis dissertation that's mentioned in the interview.

Very interesting.

His PhD is in Public Communication. Nice. I'm pursuing one in Educational Leadership, and it's very interesting to see the scope of this research and its methodology.

As me about my Michigan-based handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups. Est. 2010 - I wind more for hobby and not for profit. I do pickup winding, rewinding, and some vintage repair as well.

Yup smile.gif I completed a Masters degree in Communication/Digital Media but stopped short of Ph.D as I couldn't find anything that really interested me. Now that's certainly changed smile.gif Great to see reall work being done on something I hold dear. METAL!!! smile.gif

Congrats on your impending Doctorate BTW smile.gif

There isn't actually that much in it on methodology - it's mostly method - what there is rather jumps about and seems to think that its entirely unproblematic to mix very different theoretical perspectives. It's also a little odd that if he is concerned with gender performativity that his reading of Butler (and his even more limited reading of Foucault) is less than contemporaneous and rather glosses that sexuality, unlike musical choice, isn't a life style choice. I tend to be quite critical of what is presented as methodology in a thesis though - you wouldn't want me as one of the external examiners - and his examiners passed it, which is what counted.
