I Love pedals. I love hunting around and finding different companies who are making cool toys for me. But there are a couple companies that I think will always hold my allegiance, even if they drop the ball a few times.

Off the top of my head my favs are:
Fulltone (first boutique company I knew of. I have had a bunch of their pedals)
LovePedal (The Amp11 is my fav dirt box. Hands down best open/mid drive)
TC Electronic (always making great, quality products for a long time)

Any companies that always excite you?

i really dig my tc elecronic reverb, and my 2 mxr pedals, phase90, and carbon delay. the delay makes some really cool sounds from subtle, to echoing delay. i would say my mxr delay is my favorite after my CAE wah.
got a mesa flux drive on the way should be hear tomorrow, reviews and demos are great on that pedal cant wait to get it on my board and plugged in

Yea MXR has been around for a while. They have a new custom badass OD pedal (which is supposed to be TS based). I have read a lot of good reviews.

Good call.

as long as we are on the subject of pedal, im curious how how feel about the placement of a compressor in the chain?
i have done a few places for my compressor, the consences seems to be as close to the guitar and after the wha, ive placed it before and after phase90, works well in both spots, but to my ears the phase sounds better to me with the compressor after phaser. what do you think?

Probably FUHRMANN and PROTONE smile.gif Both make great boutique pedals. The only lame bit is you really can't try either brand out in your local Guitar Center. Not to mention the 2 month plus build time @ ProTone and having to have help reading Portugese on the Fuhrmann site smile.gif That said, both companies always seem to impress me with their Overdrives and it goes on from there.

I usually go as close to the beginning as possible. In my mind, a compressor helps to help hold your playing together (or to change your attack, like in a country guitar). Anything in front of a compressor seems odd to me, depending on your end goal. Especially a phase 90, that already changes the dynamics a little bit.

Tell me how it sounds better?

Boss never failed me. The only brand that provided me pedals that never failed or were broken. Then I like many other brands because of the sounds that I can get from their pedals, but they use to broke after some years... bosses are indestructible.

That's surprising to hear. I've had plenty of BOSS pedals fail on me. Tuners especially.

Also Tube screamers have had a solid fail rate in my crew (but they get beaten around pretty well)

weird! Bosses are the only ones that I keep, even when I don't use them anymore, because I know that they still work. My first boss pedal, bought 18 years ago is still working!!

No loyalty.
Almost every company makes something I like and something that I think sucks.

As for 'where - comp' - ? I too like near the beginning of my chain and definitely pre-distortion.
*Though I know that there's a cadre of guit players that do like it post-dist.
If you dig it after the Phaser - great! It's all in the ear of the beholder.

Oh I agree, but there are some companies you vibe well with for the most part and get excited when they come out with new stuff.

This is actually a hard question because I like a lot of companies.
But if I would choose one as "loyal to", I guess I would consider ALL bass pedals from Markbass as great ones and would buy without hearing them in action smile.gif

I'm not loyal to any pedal company because I like to try new things. But from my experience Boss pedals have always been good and reliable. They may not be the best sounding pedals, but they definitely sound good, and are very reliable. Plus the used market is flooded with them, and that is why most of my pedals are Boss, even though I know there are better sounding pedals biggrin.gif

Don't really know how to explain it. With the compressor after the phaser the phaser doesn't sound like it just overtakes the sound of the guitar as much it seems to be evened out more like the peaks of the effect are mellowed out. And I'm still able to increase the phaser of I really want the swooshing sound to stand out. I guess it sounds more even. Does that make scence?but really it's not a huge difference.

Yea I wouldn't imagine it doing too much.

It's just the regular phase 90? what comp are you using?

I'm using a phase 90 and keeley 4 knob. I actually moved the phase after the keeley this morning and did some recordings with the same settings, before and after.
Haven't had a chance to listen yet when I finished had to go to work. But I wanted to compare with just my ears while not playing
Just got in my mesa flux drive today. Gonna do the same with my overdrive , keeley before and after recorded and listen. Fed ex pulled up as I was pulling out. Don't wanna be working right now. Rather be playing guitar. cool.gif

If you're not sensing a huge difference, I would assume you aren't really doing anything.

Maybe you should first focus on what your intentions are with your pedal order.
Are you trying to tame the phaser with the comp? Could be cool.
Are you trying to phase out a comped guitar signal? What are you trying to accomplish with the comp before hitting the phase?

Ponder that, then test.

Say for instance you DO want to tame the phase with the comp. Then start getting aggressive with the comp settings to achieve that. (you've got the 4 knob keeley, so you have the options to make that happen)

Can't wait for you to post a video of that flex drive!

I have ended up with a few Elactro Harmonics pedals. They are built like tanks and always have their own quirky take on an effect. The pedal I am most chuffed with though comes from British company Rothwell. I have the Tornado overdrive pedal and it is truly awesome. Rich and throaty with loads of boost but roll back the volume on your guitar and it cleans up like an amp. Its also got a mid cut button on top of the pedal, not inside like the Mesa od pedal. Highly recommend the Rothwell to everyone.

OH EHX! That's a good call. Always putting out fun stuff.

They put out a LOT of new pedals recently and they all seem rad in my book. OD Glove is a great thick style drive.

And that Tone tattoo looks AWESOME.

Anyone played around with either of them?
