Totally agree. My 900 was a champ. Before I sold it, it was giving me some odd sounds in the reverb, which stopped working a long time ago. But as long as I kept the reverb volume down it was find. The guy I sold it to hit me back the next day and said it had the wrong tube in it which is what was making some noise

I recorded a band yesterday and the guitarist had a Bugera 1990 head which I IMMEDIATELY recognized as a JCM900 knockoff. It worked out pretty well, though like you said, for the same amount of money, you can get a good one for used.

I like to advice a kind of those (like that 50W combo) to my students for their first valve amp.
I think it's better to buy used JCM900 for around 500$ than a new, chinesse series...Already had a few of those broken before they even got sold to a customer (pre-sale)/ Those old was seemed to have much less of serious failures
