Hey guys As you know my love for minimalism, now that I have three guitars that sustain my activity, a thought just came to my mind: selling the Ibanez JEM on eBay.

Now, as I am a bit new to this, I would be curious about how much to start a bid from, judging by the following aspects:

- it is an Ibanez JEM 777SK
- it's made in 1989
- it was kept in great condition and it sounds excellent
- it has 11 signatures on it: Mattias Eklundh, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Andreas Oberg, Jeniffer Baten, Dave Martone, Stuart Hamm, Andy Timmons, Greg Howe and Bret Garsed, Michael Lee Firkins

Another thought was to wait until 2019 so that it would be exactly 30 years old

What are your thoughts on this?

That's definitely a piece of history. A Jem that's only 2 years after its introduction year.. good condition, all the signatures.

I also don't think it would make a difference to wait until it's 30 years old. Collectors want things NOW.

But if it's not bought buy a collector and by a player who will use it then they also will want it now.. why wait until it's even older ?

But surely you'll be a bit sad to see it go ?

If I had the money I'd probably go for it !

I know you don't like 'stuff' ... but I would keep that guitar.

You can get advice from jemsite.com for value, even offers. I also think not waiting (unless vai dies, hopefully not soon) would be logical, even if its a collection guitar value mostly depends on economy.

That's the way I feel too. You don't need to sell that thing. Too many memories, too many autographs. Let it be your son's first guitar.

Keep it. You will really miss it eventually. If its clutter you could always keep it in storage until you fancy a blast on it. I know Bernie Marsden has dozens of his guitars in storage and rotates them evrey once in a while so they get an airing.

I never thought I would see the day. Unless I was really hurting for money, there is no way I would sell that guitar if she were mine.

A would definitely keep the guitar Cosmin. Selling through eBay in my opinion is becoming to expensive.Then your chargers you will get from Paypal if that is how you want your payment to be made. If you have your heart set on selling the guitar I would try and sell it privately.

If you decide to sell through ebay you could start the auction off really low and put a reserve price on it. Reserve price meaning a set value that the bidding has to exceed . So for instance auction starts at £0.99 and your reserve price is £1000. The bidding would have to go to more than a £1000 for the bidder to successfully win the auction. The Ibanez Jem are very popular so I am sure you would get a lot of bidders.

Wise words. You are absolutely correct about the fees, Ebay has become rather greedy in that department as I found out when I sold my Motorbike last year.Really though Cosmin, that guitar and you have a lot of history together. It is unique. UNIQUE! it's irreplaceable my friend ,and if you got rid of it without a really good reason then I am sure you will suffer about it in later years.

Have you clear coated the signatures so they don't fade away?

Are you sure you want to sell this guitar? You will not be sad after that?
You know which was your main idea with this guitar and I think it would look great on your wall

Keep it some more time mate! It is becoming more expensive each year.

Don't sell it ! Keep it ! Think about the moments which you had with the guitar

And about those signatures, you're not gonna get any extra euros because there have to be documents or proof they're real. Trust me, I have seen so many episodes of Pawn Stars
Someone might say you drew the signatures by yourself.

Put up some pics? What shape are the frets in and what price were you thinkin? Just curious But yeah, if possible, I'd say keep it The only ibby I ever sold was my RG8 since I didn't like the neck

Well, I am not keen or intent on selling it NOW, I was considering the idea and I wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter

You are right on one hand: It's a piece of history and maybe I will feel bad about selling it later

... on the other hand - If I am not playing it.. why keep it? I will think things, of course and there's one more thing... no rush at all
