Yes about the Evan Parker and Squarepusher InstruMental- where I used to live (Newcastle and Gateshead UK) the free jazz scene is pretty good. Sadly nowadays I'm a bit out of the loop sad.gif living in S Spain . (Sort of made up for by friends sending stuff, The Wire and so on.)

I've a nice link somewhere about to Autechre live - I'll try and dig it out.

Again thanks for all the links biggrin.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

BTW - did see Evan with Stereolab - amazing gig biggrin.gif blink.gif - walked away and for once, for a few minutes was lost for words.

Cheers,
Tony

I'm about to visit the UK the first time next month, but only for a week. I'll be in London. Hopin' to catch some music and track down this one guitarist. My dad REALLY wanted to catch Evan, but I don't think he's playing that week.

Oh yeah, more good rap:

Depending when you're in London InstruMental your dad may be in luck - Evan Parker is on at the Vortex in London on 11th Oct (email is [email protected]. Address 11 Gillett Street London N16). He'll need to be really quick as it will sell out...

Cheers,
Tony

Just for the hell of it, here's some sitar:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=J6n8j7Lyx3M

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3HqQoLq5c2c

... I'm not crazy about the twangy tone sitars make, but there's some cool electric sitar stuff that’s much more approachable to guitar listeners. For example, Niladri Kumar.

Interesting InstruMental but doesn't do a lot for me - not that fond of the sitar (although the real thing sounds better then the awful Roland fake sitar on guitar synths rolleyes.gif ). My wife might like these though as she is much more into World Music then me - I sort of start and stop with Mahavishnu, Nusrat Fati ali Khan and Youssou N'Dour.

Cheers,
Tony

Although he's far from being a non-guitarist, Ty Tabor is known for incorporating sitar licks into a few King's X songs. "Not Just For The Dead" from their "King's X" album is one that I can think of.
