Very cool initiative. I will see if I can get some vocals recorded for this one. The backing track is very cool although different than what I have worked with before (vocal wise).

I am thinking either about something clean (wish me luck!) - or my usual barking, but perhaps with some spaced out effect.

edit - good thing with this genre is that I can probably slap on a fat autotune without worrying too much tongue.gif

I'm accepting the challenge and already started working on some things. The first thing I've reworked is the beginning. Sat down and sang over and over again and finally came up with a creative way into that "tapping part" which from what I'm hearing is going to be a bit of legato with some cool bends. In both my takes I play these chords Emin and G these pass quickly but I'd like to keep the chords just playing legato lines in place of the chord.

This is the most time ever spent on a collab and it's pretty rewarding work making music with a semi blank slate.

Howdy Jim! I am really glad to hear that smile.gif Spending serious time on creating and polishing your music is generally a very good idea. I know some folks like the 'raw' feeling coming out of the first take. There's something VERY lively in there and most likely it will never come out as sincere and natural once again, but if you can keep that feeling somehow and polish it, then it's always important to take the right time to work on a creation enough so that you will be as close to being 100% satisfied with it.

I totally salute your effort and I am sure it will come out accordingly in its final state wink.gif If you need some inspiration, maybe throwing an eye over these wouldn't hurt:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...atonic-tapping/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic_Tapping_3/

The idea is not to reproduce them at full speed, but to steal concepts and adapt them to the one in which you are in wink.gif

Alright so I took a new look at it and refrained a bit and also let loose too. Probably way too loose for yall' but obviously this is still in writing stage. Ive experimented with some volume swells which Id like to time them better and make them softer. I also experimented with a string skipping lick I made up which ends with some fast picking. There are also these whammy bends in there that I like as well. I'm not sure how I feel about the tapping part but I think there will be some kind of version like that in there.

Sorry Gabriel, I did not mess with tone yet. Just working on playing. What do you think, am I moving in a good direction?

Nice progress, Jim! I really like the idea of the volume swells. This is going to result in an awesome solo! smile.gif
I think a noise gate in your signal chain would help clean up your sound, there's a bit of static sound towards the start!

I am also excited about getting back to online collabs, it is difficult to get the same cultural and musical clash/chemistry happening with offline collabs! And this one is a great example of this, as I have never done anything in this type of electronic genre before.

Here is my idea: Attached File  fusing_kris.mp3 ( 5MB ) Number of downloads: 306

I recorded over the intro and the section at 01:27

I'll be able to bounce it down next week, and record video when I know how you'll use my take.

Wou!! That's a great addition Kris. I really like both ideas and how you clean voice goes with this electronic sounds. I think that you've made the track sound more metal, but more in the style of the newest albums by bands like Paradise Lost, Sentenced, Katatonia, those metal bands that started to have Depeche Mode influences. I'm amazed of how a cool backing track is growing and converting into a killer song.

The first idea could be used also later in the track since it could be the chorus. If you move the chord progression, it still works good and gains even more drama / emotion. The other parts is like a mix of verse or bridge, what I commonly call the part C of a song.

This is getting really cool. smile.gif

Hey i really like what you did with the vocals. It's sort of avangarde rocklike? When you shoot your video are you going for a certain look like the guitar asshole? I'm curious to see your video.

Good Job!

Hey Cosmin, thanks for the lesson suggestions. Got a good look at the melodic tapping and it's a great. I never thought about playing arpeggios like that. I'll have to practice that and try to incorporate it in my own playing.

Agreed. My idea with this take is to provide something which doesn't take too much space and can be moved around to fit the other takes in the collab. I find that a lot of times just having a tiny bit of vocals in an instrumental song can spice things up. Also this genre lends itself for repeating vocal lines with filters, phasers, pitch shifters etc.

Thanks - btw Paradise Lost is definitely one of my all time favorite bands, especially their metal albums Draconian Times and Icon which are breathtakingly epic! I even think their Depeche Mode style venture was decent.

Also, Kris's intervention will turn things into a hellishly good venture biggrin.gif

The vocals are sounding great! I think that there is a lot of flexibility in terms of placing it in the mix, since the vocals are kind of a subtle touch to the music. I think it would work in very well with the existing guitar solos. We will just have to see the takes come together smile.gif

Alrighty then! I'll have my parts done in the first days this coming week wink.gif Both vocals and a lead guitar part - hope to have something that's worth this beautiful track and the already existing great takes biggrin.gif

I was inspired by Taka's track and what everyone has come up with so far. I came up with something this morning, it a bit on the metal side. Hope you enjoy! P.S. this is my first recording with my new Ibanez RG biggrin.gif

Man that sounds good, I like the overlapped rhythm that seems to rise over the lead guitar. The guitars sound pretty good too!

I hope Taka has plenty of alone time with his computer to fit all this together. This is quite the mega jam.

Has anyone played with the beige section yet? If I wasn't working hard on the verse is love to play something over that, it's a great part too.

heheh yeah, they were lacking Taka's talent for creating elektro tracks that sound deep and interesting. Great to see you singing again! When is your solo album coming? smile.gif

This is a very interesting solo. I find it very original and it has a characteristic that I like of music. I heard it many times, maybe 4 or 5 times and I still discover new things. It's a complex / experimental idea that sounds very personal. Great job DG! wink.gif

Yes they would have needed some 'Taka' for sure!

Having the time and peace of mind to put together an album is definitely a dream for me..! However I am not sure the concept of producing a typical album suits my type of artistry, or today's music biz for that matter..

But creating more - yes I want to do that! I have been way to slow on that area and I hope to produce more stuff the coming time, may it be in the form of an album, GMC lessons or youtube video. We'll see!
