Wow this one is not as easy as it sounds.

And my practice was somewhat "painful" as I slowly begin to feel when I am ahead of the beat or when my notes are not even.
But it's a good thing it only means that I improve!
A lot of conentration needed for sure.

Not satisfied with this recordind but I wanted to share with you where I am today with this task.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Rhida. Thanks for this new audio. It's really good to know that you can visualize the problem now. Based on your new recording, I think that the tempo of the backing is a bit fast to play 8th notes with your current technique. This means that you should practice at a slower tempo to be comfortable to play even, and then increase tempo until you reach the backing's tempo.

I can share with you the same backing but in 110 bpm so you can try it and if you still feel uncomfortable you can turn on a metronome in 90 or 100 and practice 8th notes.

Our next goal is to adjust 8th notes so the next task is to provide a recording here playing only 8th notes over the new backing or over metronome.

Ok?

Hi Dieterle, thanks for this new audio. I think that your new take is better but there is still work to do with those 8th notes. I feel that they are a bit hurried. Please compare again my audio sample with your take and you will notice that the groups of two 8th notes are sounding like "hurried"in your take. Listen to my take, close your eyes and feel the 8th notes. Then, play the backing, close your eyes again and imagine how the 8th notes would sound. Do this as many times as you need.

Then, when you already can think and feel the 8th notes over the backing, play it. Practice only 8th notes this time, record a new take and share it here.

I shared a slower backing, you can also go for it if you feel more comfortable.

So please remember only 8th notes, deal?

Hi Dieterle! Thanks for this new audio. It is getting better but there is still work to do. You still tend to play the second 8th note a bit before you should. You need to give enough time to the first note until the second sounds.

In order to help you a bit more with this, I created a Guitar Pro file that includes drums, bass and a lead guitar playing an 8th notes pattern. The idea is that you open it with guitar pro and be able to change tempo, keep lead guitar to copy it, mute it to play with the backing only and also to be able to write down other notes combinations to see how 9th notes sound and practice over it. Remember that you can create loops and set the tempo that you want when using guitar pro.

Hello !

Here a first record with guitar pro backing ! 120 bpm

I use GPro the first time like this so good experience and i will try out GPro now often to experiment

Today later after my training i will do some more record in 110 bpm and only with bass and drum line smile.gif

I would like to keep this thread in future to exercise and concentrate special on TIMING Study`s because i do not have problems to play my own emotions on guitar but hähähähähä i should be more in timing so people maybe like it one day a bit !

Thank you Gabriel for being such a serious Mentor even that you are busy with your Band CIRSE , Greetings to ALL of Them

All right friends!

Here's today's take.

Hi Rhida, I have to say that this is slowly improving! You are on the right track but you still need to practice it. There are some 8th notes that are ok, while most of the others are closer but aren't there yet. Please continue practicing today and remember to play the first 8th note even with the beat (most of the times this note will sound with the kick and bass) and don't hurry to play the second 8th, the one that goes upbeat. A good idea would be to think the beat in 8th instead of 4th.

The following backing includes a metronome in 8th notes just to illustrate how you could think the tempo while you play. You can practice a bit over it, but the idea is not that you try to follow the metronome, the idea is that you understand and feel the pulse. Take your time to listen and feel it.

Hi Dieterle! This is also evolving well! I can notice that your playing is getting tighter but this audio also shows clearly the timing issues. I notice that many times you play the first 8th note, the one that goes with the pulse, before the beat and that makes the overall sound out of timing. Please set the guitar pro file at a slower tempo, practice with the lead but then mute it and practice without it. Share your take here without the midi guitar, or using one of the backings.

As I said to Rhida, don't try to follow the "help", it should be a help to understand and feel the rhythm required, not the carrot's rabbit.

Awesome! You are getting really close mate. There are many 8th notes tight there. Remember to avoid playing the second one of the beat quickly, that's the only problem that appears here and there. Please keep on practicing like this, and without the lead.

Hey Rhida! This is also evolving! The first part, when you play 2 repetitions of each note sounds good! That's the way! Then, when you become more melodic/musical the timing issues start to appear. So please let's get back to the timing exercise and practice playing 2 repetitions of each note during the whole backing. We need to go slow but solid, and increase difficulties slowly, ok?

Hi Rhida! It's awesome to see how you are slowly adjusting this. smile.gif Your 8th notes are starting to feel tight and these are great news! It seems that this workout is starting to give strong results! Congratulations, you are a real hard worker!

There are some little moments in which the second note (the one that goes with the upbeat) is played a bit earlier but there are even more parts sounding good, well done!

Now, we are ready for the following step: Eight notes combined with quarter notes. Ok?

Hi Gab!
And thanks for your support!

So here's the new recording.

Hi Rhida, this new recording shows that you are still not comfortable with 110 BPM. I note that your quarter notes aren't even on this one and that the eight note both have timing issues and notes that aren't sounding.

As we need to use this workout to finally master this issues, I think that the best we can do now is starting with a slower tempo and be able to keep tempo tight before we increase it.

I'm not at my studio computer now so I cannot record a slower backing but you can use the guitar pro file that I created before and set the tempo around 90/100 and see what happens.

The guitar pro file includes drums, bass and also a lead guitar playing 8th notes that can be used as help at first but please mute it while practising and recording. Ok?

I will spend quite some time on this backing track as the new tempo allows me to focus really hard on my timing.
So thanks for this backing!
